A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the SLC on Springvale Campus

Welcome to Term 4, Week 4! It’s been an action-packed and inspiring term so far, filled with learning, teamwork, and celebration. With excursions, presentations, and exciting events still to come, there’s so much to be proud of and even more to look forward to as we head towards the end of the year. Let’s take a look at some of the amazing things happening across our school community!

Last week, some of our current and emerging student leaders were lucky enough to be part of the Children’s Advisory Forum, where we worked with students from other schools to share ideas on how to improve Greater Dandenong. Together, we helped decide what kinds of events could attract more people to visit the area. This experience brought us closer to our community and showed how powerful student voices can be.

Here’s what some of our Year 5 students had to say about their experience:

Dilawar: “My favourite activity was the sports activity because I got to communicate with students from different schools and I got to get active!” Bibi: “My favourite activity was the one where I got to send a message to my younger self—it was very heartwarming.”

Anna: “My favourite activity was the presentations from students at other schools because they were very informative.”

On Friday, our softball players headed to Division Finals. What an amazing achievement, softballers! A huge shoutout to Mr. Kullar and Miss Lin for being such amazing coaches, and a big thank you to Mr. Lane for training the team, we don’t know what we’d do without you!

The school year is coming to an end, and it’s almost time for our Year 6 students to celebrate their graduation. It’s exciting to see them preparing for new adventures as they begin the next chapter of their lives in high school. As one chapter closes, another begins! Our Year 5 students are already stepping up as they apply for leadership roles for 2026. We’ve seen so many of them show great potential and responsibility, and we know they’ll continue our legacy with pride next year!

In Weeks 6 and 7, the SLC students will be completing their end of year PAT tests in Reading and Maths. These assessments help us see how much everyone has learned and grown throughout the year. It’s a great chance to show off all that hard work, new skills, and amazing progress from Term 1 to now. We can’t wait to see how far everyone has come!

The SLC students have also been busy sharing their amazing space presentations with the MLC students. They taught everyone about planets like Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, and many more! The MLC students loved learning all the interesting facts and were so impressed by the effort the SLC students put into their presentations. It was an exciting way to learn about the universe together, and a great way to wrap up our Space learning cycle!

We’re also excited to share that our whole school has been a part of the Greater Dandenong Logo Competition! This is such an amazing opportunity to show our creativity to the community. Every student worked hard to include brilliant ideas and Aboriginal-inspired designs to create something truly special, we’re so proud of everyone! Don’t forget to submit your entries before October 31st!

As some of you may know, World Teachers’ Day was this week! It’s a day to thank our wonderful teachers for all the hard work and care they put in for us, not just classroom teachers, but also our amazing specialist teachers. This day is an important reminder to show appreciation.  It was great togive them a big thank you and bright smiles when we saw them!

Congratulations to Jamil, who represented our school along with some students from the Heights Campus at Regional Athletics in the 100m sprint! Although he didn’t place, it was still an incredible achievement, especially since this was his second time competing at regionals.

Well done, Jamil! Keep up the great work!

As we head into the next few weeks, let’s keep up the amazing effort and positive energy across our school. Don’t forget, there will be no school next Monday for Curriculum Day and no school next Tuesday for Melbourne Cup Day, so enjoy the extra-long weekend and come back refreshed for the exciting events ahead!
