Frisbee Golf

As part of the Year 9 Physical Education program, 9 Barak took part in a Frisbee Golf excursion.  The session was designed to introduce students to a new and engaging physical activity while encouraging teamwork, strategy and outdoor recreation.

Frisbee Golf, also known as Disc Golf, combines the techniques of traditional golf with the fun of throwing a frisbee.  Instead of hitting a ball into a hole, players aim to land their disc into a raised metal basket in as few throws as possible.  The students quickly picked up the rules and embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.

University of Melbourne Children's Awards

On 10 November, our class, 9 Monash, accompanied the selected Year 9 Barak students, Sophie M, Isabelle N, Mabel Mac and Hannah C, to the 2025 Kids Conference held at The University of Melbourne.  During the event, we watched other Year 9 students from schools around Australia present their adaptations of Synergy research topics.  The day was incredibly inspiring and has motivated us for the next stages of our own Synergy journey.  It was fascinating to see the creativity and effort that students from other schools put into their work.

One memorable presentation focused on the Antarctic Treaty, where we learned about the international agreement that protects Antarctica from harmful exploitation and how global warming continues to threaten its fragile environment.  This presentation broadened our perspective on the importance of protecting endangered places around the world.

Our four Barak students represented our school extremely well, presenting their Synergy project from last semester, an innovative app called Liberty Girls, designed to guide and protect women in Melbourne’s CBD.  They spoke clearly, answered questions thoughtfully, and presented their ideas with confidence and professionalism.  We are so proud of how well they represented our school, showing passion and leadership in front of a large audience.

The conference also gave us a chance to connect with other schools, and we appreciated how everyone supported each other’s presentations by asking thoughtful questions and celebrating each group’s achievements.

Although the Liberty App isn’t a real app, which is unfortunate because it’s an outstanding idea, many students from other schools were eager to know when it might become one. Seeing that level of enthusiasm was incredibly rewarding and showed just how impactful our peers work has been.

Overall, this experience was an amazing opportunity to collaborate, share ideas, and strengthen our teamwork.  All thanks goes to Mrs Chute and her amazing planning of our Synergy program which has helped our class grow as a community and deepen our understanding of our world, and the city we grow in.
