Dear Parents and Students,
I am writing this article from Kyoto in Japan, where 6 JMSS students are presenting their own scientific investigations to more than 50 schools from more than 25 countries at the Japan Super Science Fair (JSSF). Students have also been able to participate in a range of workshops and cultural events as well as hearing from some eminent scientists about their work and research. Running concurrently with the fair is the 23rd Annual Meeting of the International Schools Science Network (ISSN). JMSS is one of 10 international schools on the executive of this organisation and benefits greatly from the collaboration and exposure to innovative practices that this network provides. The photos below show our students with their research posters.

Year 12 2025
Our year 12 group celebrated the end of their secondary schooling in style in week 3 of this term with a number of entertaining events and activities. The final assembly was particularly memorable with live music from year 12 band “The Gurus”, an excellent video featuring every one of our 228 year 12 students and some amusing interviews conducted by assembly hosts Yuki and Rydham.

The VCAA written exams have started well, and we are hopeful that all of our students will effectively utilise all of their preparations across the year to perform to their best in these assessments. There will be further communication about results and change of preference in the next newsletter.
Australian Science Fair
Once again JMSS is hosting the Australian Science Fair from November 24th -26th. This event will host students from interstate, rural Victoria and Japan as well as a visiting delegation from Thailand. Importantly this fair allows our year 10 students to showcase their extended experimental investigations and also to explain to peers, academics and parents the results of their research. We encourage our Year 10 parents to attend the poster presentation on Monday November 24th from 6pm to 8pm to test the rigour of our student’s research.
Head start into 2026
Apart from course confirmation processes there are many events and programs that highlight the end of year including Engineering Immersion and Pharmaceutical Science Immersions for year 11 students. These days in the past have been highly influential in developing career pathways for many students and it is important that all year 11 students attend. Our orientation into 2026 begins from Friday 28th November until Wednesday 10th December. Attendance for all current year 10 and 11 students is compulsory.
Presentation Night
The 2025 Presentation Night is on Friday December 5th at the Robert Blackwood Hall. This is a huge event and features our Year 12 students graduating and celebrates the many student achievements of 2025. There are also more than 100 students involved in a mass musical item. Please put this date in your diaries.
