Sport: Volleyball

What an exciting year for Macleod College Volleyball!  All of our girls Volleyball teams (Senior, Year 8/9, Year 8, Year 7) won against our local schools and made it through to the Northern Zone finals. Our Year 8/9 team will be playing early next year in the NMR as Year 9/10 students.

We had our most successful Year at NMR with both our Year 7 and Year 8 girls teams winning their pool and playing in the NMR finals where we came second overall, with the winning teams then going onto state. This is our best achievement in over 10 years of Volleyball.

The students were amazing – enthusiastic, committed to our lunchtime training, and supportive of one another. Thank you to Luci Slaughter Year 11 who helped to coach the Year 8 team. And thank you to the girls – very proud of you all for being so respectful and always giving your all.

Below is a report from Mae Gross Year 7 reflecting on our school values:

I believe the Year 7 Volleyball team put in a lot of effort in representing the school today, by showing our 3 school values.

> Achieve - We showed the value of achieving really well today, as we won all the games in our pool, and set some of our teams personal bests. We were very good at not only striving to be the best team, but to be the most dedicated team. We consistently put in the effort during warm-ups so we could play to the best of our abilities and reach our team goal (to hit the ball over the net).

> Respect - I believe that we showed respect the best today. As we not only listened very well to the adult's talking to us, but also spoke and listened to each other with kindness. Firstly, we were working very hard to be the umpires and Jo's (the convenor) favourite school by stopping and being quiet as they spoke, but also receiving feedback from them with gratitude. Secondly, we were respectful to each other. As a team of 8 girls, we all worked very hard to communicate feedback and words of encouragement with enthusiasm and kindness. All girls on the team could say that enjoying the day was funner with sweet and caring friends alongside us. Lastly, we showed respect to Mrs Moussa. Not once did we complain about where we started, or about the feedback she gave us, we listened to her and tried very hard to work on the improvements she was giving us.

> Connect - Showing connect was something we did with ease as we communicated very well to each other. As a team, we worked hard to connect with other schools by playing games with them during warm-ups and hanging out with them throughout the day. All the teams today came together and were super nice to each other even though we had to play them. Today many high-fives, fist bumps and congratulations were given to each other after some of the amazing rallies, serves, spikes, sets and digs we did whilst playing. Not only when playing were we encouraged but also when practising as we all gave respectful feedback.
