Mental Health in Primary School - please take 15 minutes to complete the survey

The Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative is being expanded to every Victorian government and low-fee non-government primary school between 2023 and 2026.

Schools taking part receive funding to employ a Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHWL) to implement a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing. The role of the MHWL is to build the capacity of the whole school to support student mental health and wellbeing.  The initiative is being delivered in partnership with the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) and the University of Melbourne.

The department has engaged MCRI to evaluate MHiPS as it expands. The evaluation will focus on the implementation of the initiative and its impact.

As part of this evaluation, all school staff are invited to take part in an optional online survey.

To access the survey and consent form, refer to,https://redcap.link/mhips2025_sws

The 15-minute survey includes demographic questions, as well as questions about student mental health and wellbeing and what student mental health supports exist in our school. The 2025 MHiPS staff survey is due on Friday 19th December.

Please note taking part in this research is voluntary and individual responses will remain confidential.

The research study has approval through the Royal Children's Hospital Human Research Ethics Committee (RCH HREC: 65924) and the department's Research in Schools and Early Childhood (RISEC # 2020_004332).

If you have any questions about the research, email mhips@mcri.edu.au.

If you have any questions about the MHiPS initiative in your school, email mentalhealth@education.vic.gov.au.

Message  to French teachers

Before planning week, I wanted to inform you that we will be using a new platform for French grammar and  spelling.

This platform is called MOTOUFO.

I will provide an information session on curriculum day to show you how to use it.

Because we only have one iPad between 2 students, the students will be paired with someone of the same level in French grammar/spelling.

Each year level will have to organise the notions to mirror what you will teach in order and this will be presented on curiculum day.

The idea would be to use MOTOUFO while you perform your guided reading groups.

You can chosse if you want to use it as a preteaching tool or if you want to use it a practice after your lesson about those concepts

Before transition:

Before curriculum day:

  • set up an account on MOTOUFO (only one per year level please using one of the teachers edupass address. Discuss with your teaching partner who will be the account holder but you will share the login details for your partner to see the data.
  • On curriculum day in 2026, I will provide you a little information session on how to use it and set up your students accounts, the differentiation and how to look at your data.

I hope it is all clear, if not please ask.

Coming Soon: Les Plumes Bilingues, Our Bilingual Student Magazine

We are excited to launch a new initiative to celebrate and encourage our students’ writing in French. This term, we will begin publishing a student magazine called Les Plumes Bilingues. The magazine will be released once every term on Fridays, in conjunction with the school newsletter, Le Journal.

All classes are warmly invited to participate. Teachers may select any French writing pieces from their students that they feel are suitable for publication. Students are also welcome to write about any topic they are passionate about, including science, music, art, sport, or any other area of interest.

For this first release, we will prepare a mini introductory edition. Students are welcome to include drawings or photos with their writing to make the magazine more visually appealing.

Please upload your selected student work to the shared Drive folder "Les Plumes Bilingues" by Week 9.
