BASKETBALL
Last Friday MRPS students from 5/6 went to Selkirk Stadium for school Division Basketball. It was really fun competing against the other schools. Every school was really keen and eager to get started and win some games.
The Miners Rest Boys first team won every game and made it to finals. We played St Thomas More and lost 5-8.
The Miners Rest boys second team won 1 game and didn’t make finals but had a great time.
Throughout the day we became frustrated due to two evacuations at Selkirk Stadium. This meant that all teams had to wait outside. We had about an hour break. Overall, we had loads of fun.

On Friday 22nd of August, some eager basketballers headed to Selkirk Stadium. My team and I were prepared to verse the other schools. Our first match was at 9:50, against St Thomas More, sadly we lost. We had a 20 min break, so we had some fruit. The next team we played was St Alipius, that was close, but sadly we lost again. In our next 20 minute break, Will gave us some motivational speeches! It must have worked because we won in our next game against St Pats! Everything was going well… until… we had to evacuate the stadium! We all filed outside the emergency door and sat outside for about 10 minutes. We had to wait around a while until our next game against Lumen Christi, where we unfortunately lost again. Next thing you know, another evacuation! This time we weren’t surprised. A short time later, we packed our things, said goodbye to Selkirk Stadium and headed back to school. We had a great day.

School basketball was an amazing opportunity to have. We started off the day by walking into the Gym at school and putting on our amazing uniforms.
We left to go on the bus to go to Selkirk Stadium which was around 8:55. When we got there the B grade girls and the boys put their bags at Court Seven and watched the boys game for a little bit before having to go to our game while the B grade girls watched the whole game since our game was at 10:30. We lost our first game but had amazing sportsmanship. Our second game came round and with lots of team work and support we won our game. We had an evacuation where we got rushed out and had to stay out for around 15 minutes while the firefighters came to check the building. We got back in and then we had another evacuation, when we finally got back we finished off our game and lost sadly. While some people had chips and gravy we cheered the A grade girls and after that we went on the bus where we got back to Miners Rest PS safely.
I would like to say thank you to Mr Bell, Katherine, Mr Brown, and Alyson for supporting us during this amazing day.
