Corelli Strings play well in assembly

This term in Corelli Strings, students have been using a variety of new technical skills in a group setting for the first time. At assembly on Monday, they used some of those new skills in performance. They played “Lazy Sundays” with a suitably chill vibe. Their new technical skill of slurring notes together added to the smooth sound and their new technique of using a harmonic on the last note gave a fitting openness to the final sound. They also played “Russian Dance” which used a new note for them and a new musical technique of accelerando. They started the piece really slowly then gradually sped up for an exciting interpretation. The pieces were confidently introduced by Kareena (4O) and Amelia (3O).

Night of Music

Corelli Strings, Choir and Orchestra prepare for Night of Music Performance

The annual Night of Music concert hosted by the Heidelberg Orchestras will be on Saturday 6th September at the Performing Arts Centre, Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School. The concert starts at 7pm and tickets (maximum 3 per family) are available from  https://www.heidelbergsymphony.com.au/ Adults $28 / Child $14. (Performers don’t need a ticket)

Performers wear white on the top and black on the bottom. Each group has a short soundcheck before the concert which is an important chance to see the stage and test the sound:

  • Choir please arrive at 4:50pm
  • Orchestra please arrive at 5:30pm
  • Corelli Strings please arrive at 5:55pm

When we ask Year 6 students for highlights of their time in the IPS String Program, the Night of Music always comes up. It is a very special evening: very exciting for the students and a wonderful opportunity for the families to be proud of their performers.
