FOUNDATION NEWS
Another wonderful and exciting week was had by us all in Foundation last week!
As mathematicians, we have just completed our first unit on Addition. We explored different ways of combining numbers and enjoyed solving number stories to find totals. We are now moving into subtraction, where we will begin to explore how numbers can be taken away to find what the difference is. This is another big step in our mathematical journey, and we are already showing great enthusiasm for these new challenges.
The highlight of the week was our Hands-On Science incursion, which was an unforgettable experience. We transformed into mini chemists and physicists as we engaged in six exciting experiments. As inquirers, we:
- Discovered how magnets work and which materials are attracted to them.
- Observed amazing reactions when vinegar, baking soda, and detergent were combined.
- Explored the difference between magic sand and cotton sand.
- Used cabbage water to test liquids and watched the colours change when mixed with vinegar, water, and baking soda.
- Created “magic snow” and observed its properties.
- Compared the smells and properties of different liquids.
Throughout the day, we asked thoughtful questions, made predictions, and showed wonderful curiosity and excitement as we explored like scientists. We are so proud of the way everyone engaged with each activity and the joy that was found in discovering new scientific ideas!
We can’t wait to continue this enthusiasm with more science-based learning and experiments in the classroom over the coming weeks. Wishing all our families a wonderful week ahead!
This week, we will be learning about…

- Writing: Recording sounds, sight words, and using spaces, capital letters and full stops. Learning about procedural texts and verbs
- Inquiry: Finding out about Chemical Science
- Religion: Confirmation
The Resilience Project: Gratitude

YEAR 1/2 NEWS
What a wonderful week of learning it has been! As learners, we have continued to read and write fiction texts, find out about multiplication, develop our faith understanding and be scientists!
As mathematicians, we have continued to find out about the concept of multiplication. We have been exploring and responding to a variety of multiplication worded problems by representing them in pictures (equal groups) and solving them using repeated addition and skip counting. This week, we will be extending our understanding of numbers by tuning in to the concept of division.
As people of faith we have been interpreting the scripture passage, ‘The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost’. To deepen our understanding of this story, we have been observing various artworks of the story. As thinkers, we have engaged in the ‘Looking: Ten Times Two thinking routine to share our interpretations of each image. These learning opportunities have enabled us to deepen our understanding of the Holy Spirit.
Congratulations to 1/2CW for leading your first whole school assembly. The Year 1/2 teachers are incredibly proud of your courage and wonderful reading!
We look forward to seeing all of the children's costumes this coming Friday to celebrate Book Week!!
Upcoming events
- Book Week Dress Up Parade - Friday, 29th August
- Father's Day Stall - Wednesday, 3rd September
- Father's Day Breakfast Activities - Thursday, 4th September

YEAR 3/4 NEWS
As resilient learners, we have been exploring the different Zones of Regulation to help us better understand our emotions. We listed a range of strategies to help us deal with negative emotions, like reading a book, mindful colouring, deep breathing and fidget tools. As a class, we have created an emotional word bank to help us clearly identify our emotions.
As scientists, we participated in our Hands-On Science Incursion on States of Matter. We investigated solids, liquids and gases, and explored how both heat and chemicals can create changes between these states. We had lots of fun engaging in various activities, facilitated by our wonderful presenter, Nae. Our favourite part of the incursion was making bouncy balls!!
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Multiplication & Division
- Reading: Class novel on Charlotte’s Web.
- Writing: Character analysis.
- Spelling: The digraph /aw/ as in saw.
- Inquiry: Science experiments using the scientific method
- Religion: Jubilee year of hope

YEAR 5/6 NEWS
We’re excited to share the excellent learning and growth happening across our school this week. From engaging in hands-on science experiments to celebrating sporting achievements, our students have embraced opportunities to learn, create, and support each other.
As writers, we continue to develop our skills in persuasive writing, preparing for oral presentations on Therapy Dogs. This week, we focused on modality and carefully choosing words to strengthen our arguments and increase the author’s intention.
As inquirers, we had an exciting science incursion where we created floating houses with Engineers Without Borders from Melbourne University.
To further our understanding of science, we also explored gases and chemical reactions through hands-on experiments, sparking curiosity and encouraging inquiry-based learning.
In sport, many of our students participated in the SSV Coburg District Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to all who placed and participated. Your determination and sportsmanship were inspiring!
We continue to be proud of the creativity, enthusiasm, and engagement of our students across all areas of learning. Keep up the great work!
A reminder that Home Learning is distributed each Monday. Please ensure your child completes and reviews the tasks, particularly in Maths, to consolidate their learning. A heads up, this week's reading for ‘Can You See Me’ is quite lengthy.
