Notes from the Principal

Shrek the Musical
Excitement is building for our performance this term! Tickets have almost sold out for the evening performance, so if you have fans who want to attend, encourage them to book the matinee session.
Many thanks to Amy, Barbara, Mel, Maz and Renee and any other volunteers who have worked on our backdrops and props. And a huge thank you to Ron Huf for building supports for our backdrops.
This is an amazing opportunity for our children, who get to the chance to perform on stage with backing music, lighting – the whole shebang!
Don’t forget rehearsals – Sunday 24 August and Sunday 31st August. Mrs Huf and I will be supervising rehearsals at Monivae in their theatre from 10am-2:30pm. Please feel free to drop your children off with packed lunch, snacks and a drink bottle. Rachel and I will supervise them for you. Go and have a nice lunch or brunch 😊.
Jump Rope for Heart
We have already raised over $700 for the Heart Foundation! Many thanks to those people in the community who have donated to this worthy cause. We have been skipping at school, getting our cardio in and improving our skills. Skipping is great exercise for Heart Health. Join in at home if you can! And word on the street is that Miss Lee can do double dutch...
School Council Meeting
Our next School Council Meeting will be Wednesday 17th September. This will be via Webex at 7pm.
Book Week Dress Up Day
I was heartbroken that I missed our annual Book Week dress up and activities day. I was lucky enough that Tammy sent me pictures of the staff, students and kindergarten children in their costumes.
It is a true reflection of the community spirit of our school that all our students participate in this event, and the kindergarten joins in. As I said last year, this is the first school I have been in where every child participates. I hope that tradition continues.
Congratulations to our prize winners – Pippa (4-6), Will (2-3) and Damian and Maggie (F-1).
Hooptime - Junior and Senior
We have entered a junior and senior team for Hooptime. Years 3/4 will play on Tuesday 9th September and Year 6's will play on Friday 12th September. Participation is optional but if not participating it will be a normal school day. More information will be forwarded closer to the date. Permission notes will soon be available on uEducateUs.
Tree planting
Thank you to Jodie Young who has planted a botanical gardens oak tree next to our picnic bench seats. The acorn was planted in 2017, 100 years on from the parent planting. Thank you also for the gardening you have been doing down the front of the school.
Reminders and Updates
Warm Up Lunches - Wednesday. Please remember that any lunch item your child wishes to warm up on a Wednesday needs to be microwaveable.
Right to disconnect - The "right to disconnect" law in Australia allows employees to refuse work-related contact from their employer outside of their working hours, unless the refusal is considered unreasonable. This right is part of the broader "Closing Loopholes" legislation and is designed to protect employees from the expectation of being constantly available for work, which can negatively impact their wellbeing. In a government school setting, this includes parents/carers contacting school staff out of hours. To clarify this for our school community, please familiarise yourself with the “Communication With Staff Policy” available on our web page and in hard copy at the Office.
Staffing Update
We are excited to announce that Mrs Kate Thomas has been employed for the remainder of the year as an Education Support staff member.
Stadium Update
STADIUM OPENING!!!
We are awaiting the installation of padding inside the stadium, and then it will be ready for use.
School Council are organising the grand opening and naming ceremony.
This will be held on Sunday 5th October at 10am. We will be providing a free bbq lunch after the ceremony.
Everybody in our community is very welcome to come and join the celebrations .
Have a great fortnight.
Warmest regards,
Kate Steele
