Classrooms in the Spotlight

Room 2

Celebration of Learning

This term, our Pre-Primary students have been busy exploring stories, writing with Colourful Semantics, and sharing their own ideas with growing confidence. In HASS, they learned about special places, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ connections to Country, and discussed ways we can care for our environment. Through art, play, and collaborative learning, the children have shown creativity, resilience, and teamwork. We are proud of their progress and excited for more learning adventures next term!

Room 7

Room 7 have had a productive Term 3. We have enjoyed being busy and learning new things. As a class, we visited the zoo and aligned this excursion to our Persuasive Writing focus. We widened our viewpoint and looked at whether animals belong in captivity and considered other alternatives. The students were insightful, reflective and empathetic around this topic. The class produced a persuasive writing piece about whether animals belong in captivity.

Our Art focus was based around the latest Moana movie’s release, we looked at other perspectives such as The Maori legend about Maui. The students learnt how to sketch and shade their interpretation of the legend of How Maui slowed down the sun. The art pieces produced were very impressive, with a big focus on positive and negative space.

Book Week was exciting! We enjoyed dressing up as our favourite characters. Harry Potter and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz was a popular choice.

We look forward to seeing what Term 4 brings!

Geography Country Research Room 12 -  A Class Favourite!

This term, our students explored the world through an exciting Geography research project. Each student chose a country to investigate and created their own research. They learned about location, landscape, climate, population, history, politics, economy, tourism, and more!

It was a fun and engaging activity, and the students really enjoyed learning interesting facts about different countries. They especially loved discovering new cultures, learning about traditional food, and sharing their presentations with the class.

Well done to all our young geographers!

📚 Book Week Magic in Room 13

Room 13 embraced the wonder of Book Week with a joyful celebration of storytelling, creativity, and imagination. The week began with a special visit from the talented author and illustrator of Bath Ballerina, whose engaging presentation brought the story to life. Students were enchanted by sparkling jewels, colourful tutus, and the whimsical world of the bath-time ballerina.

Together with Room 14, students listened with delight, shared laughter, and even joined in the fun by attempting their own “pirouettes” and “slurps”—just like the characters in the book! The energy and enthusiasm were contagious, creating a shared experience that highlighted the joy of reading.

To finish the week, students expressed their creativity through a vibrant colouring activity, creating a stunning display in the classroom. It was a memorable celebration of literature, movement, and artistic flair—one that reminded us of all of the magic that stories can bring.

Room 18

Room 18 participated in an inspiring, informative, and exciting excursion to the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre in Martin. We learnt about the different types of black cockatoos living in the Perth region and the challenges they face.

We were shocked to discover that ravens are the main culprits behind injured black cockatoos found at schools across Perth.

A highlight of the excursion was entering a black cockatoo walk-in aviary, where the birds perched on our arms and heads. Room 18 were also lucky to meet two alpine dingoes, emus, and some relaxed kangaroos. We look forward to helping protect black cockatoos in Perth by planting more native plants and ensuring we don’t leave any rubbish for ravens to eat at school.

Room 9

This term in Science, the students in Room 9 have been learning about chemical reactions through research, investigation and hands-on experimentation. As part of their unit on volcanoes, students explored how eruptions occur, the different types of volcanoes around the world and their impact on the environment. They used this knowledge to produce detailed information reports that demonstrated their ability to organise facts, explain scientific processes and use appropriate scientific vocabulary.

Students then applied their learning by designing and creating their own model volcanoes. Using baking soda, vinegar and a small amount of dishwashing liquid, they carried out a safe, controlled experiment that simulated a volcanic eruption. This allowed students to observe a chemical reaction in action as the ingredients combined to release carbon dioxide gas and create the foaming “lava.”

Room 9 students showed excellent engagement and enthusiasm throughout the unit, developing strong scientific understanding and confidence in practical investigation skills.

Room 17

What an incredible term it has been for Room 17! From exciting excursions to creative learning experiences, the students have had the opportunity to grow in many ways.

One of the highlights was our excursion to Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre, where students connected their classroom learning with real-world experiences. The visit allowed them to explore the fascinating world of black cockatoos and other wildlife, bringing their studies to life in a meaningful way.

We were also thrilled to be part of the Chance to Dance programme, where students learned ballet positions and movements to express emotions and entertain others. It’s been amazing to witness the growth in confidence as the children embraced new challenges and shared their talents with pride.

In literacy, Room 17 has been exploring Talk for Writing, an interactive programme that brings story writing to life through story maps, creative actions, and structural innovation. The students have had so much fun creating their own stories and developing their writing skills in a dynamic and engaging way.

It has been such a rewarding term, and I’m incredibly proud of all the progress the students have made. I hope they’ve enjoyed their time in Room 17, and I’ve certainly enjoyed watching them grow into the next generation of leaders!

Room 10

The students in Room 10 have been showing off prior and current investigative learning by using the back wall to create a display of posters. These posters show off all of the previous learning they have done on space and the planets, as well as new topics of interest that they have taken the time to research. Students have been creating infographic style pictures, practicing their artistic skills, handwriting and informative writing, sharing what they have learned, what they are interested in and what they are curious about.

The students of Room 10 have shown a lot of pride in this wall, and routinely stop and admire it, reflecting on their learning. It has been a true joy for them to take up the mantle of museum curators and art aficionados, taking the time to stop, explain their work using the correct terminology, and take pride in how far they have come.

Room 12

This term, Room 12 has been exploring the art of persuasive writing. Students have learned how to express their opinions clearly and use convincing language to influence their readers. We focused on developing strong arguments, using emotive words, and structuring writing with clear introductions, reasons, and conclusions.

Through engaging topics such as school rules and expectations, and favourite activities, students practised supporting their opinions with evidence and examples. They also learned how to consider different viewpoints and respond respectfully to opposing ideas.

Class discussions and debates helped build confidence in speaking and writing persuasively. Everyone enjoyed sharing their ideas and discovering how powerful words can be when used effectively. Room 12 has shown great creativity and enthusiasm, producing thoughtful pieces of writing that demonstrate growing skill and confidence as persuasive communicators.
