Roblox – Fun, Popular, but Stay Alert
Many of our kids — including at CJC — love Roblox. They talk about it, look forward to playing after school, and use it to connect with friends. Roblox is a huge online gaming platform hosting millions of user-created games and virtual worlds, from racing and gardening to obstacle courses and virtual shopping. With so many genres, there’s something for everyone.
Worldwide, Roblox is played by over 90 million users from 190 countries. Players can be as young as seven, and accounts are available for anyone up to 99 years old. But with its popularity comes risk — particularly from predators who use the platform to connect with children.
Roblox can link to other apps like Discord or Snapchat, which allow private messaging, voice, and video chats. This is where the danger increases — once contact moves off Roblox, it’s harder for parents and the platform to monitor interactions.
Recently, Roblox introduced a suite of safety changes, using a multi-tiered approach and AI-powered content review to detect inappropriate content. While these measures help, they don’t replace the need for parental awareness and involvement.
