Grade 2

Hi Families of Year 2,
Here is a quick update on the learning taking place in our Learning Community:
Spelling – Silent Letters
This week, we have been exploring words with silent letters, focusing on silent k, b, and w. Students have been learning to spot these tricky letters that you don’t hear when you say the word – like knight, lamb, and wrist. We have been practising reading and writing these words to build accuracy and confidence in spelling.
Reading – Finding the Main Idea
In reading, our focus has been on comprehension skills, especially learning how to find the main idea in a text. Students are discovering how to look for clues, summarise information, and explain what a story or paragraph is mostly about. This helps them become more thoughtful readers who really understand what they’re reading.
Mathematics – Multiplication and Division Strategies
In maths, we’ve been learning different multiplication and division strategies. Students have been using arrays, equal groups, repeated addition, and sharing strategies to solve problems. These skills will help them build a strong foundation for working with numbers and solving real-world problems.
Integrated Studies – Australia and the World
In Integrated, we are exploring the states and territories of Australia and learning about Australia’s place in the world. Students are finding out where we live, how Australia is connected to other countries, and why our location is important.
Reminder – Myuna Farm Excursion
Please remember to pay for our Myuna Farm excursion. We are looking forward to an exciting day learning about animals and farm life!
