Child Safe Standards

At Sacred Heart School we are a Child Safe School and know that it is important we review the implementation of the Child Safe standards to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students. Reviewing regularly ensures that our policies, procedures, and practices remain effective, reflect the latest legislative requirements, and address emerging risks.
As a P & C Community Group we will review a standard as part of each meeting (these are also reviewed with Staff), this ongoing commitment ensures that every student feels respected, valued and protected within our school community. At our most recent meeting when we discussed the Child Safe Standards, we had a great conversation about what our P & C see us implementing, where I was able to share some additional practices that we implement and how they relate to the standards. Moving forward, to be able to better share this with our SHS community, a page will be dedicated in our newsletter to the Child Safe Standards, for our families to review, share any feedback or ask any questions.
Child Safe Standard 2 - Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
At Sacred Heart School we are committed to embedding Child Safety and Wellbeing into every aspect of our leadership, governance and culture. We understand that failing to integrate these standards can expose students to significant risk. As a school we address these risks by; Child safety being an agenda item for school leadership and staff meetings, regular training is provided, establishing accountability for child safety roles, etc.
Our SHS families can access many of our policies that relate to Child Safety through out School website.
Child Safe Standard 6 - People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing practice.
At Sacred Heart School we create and maintain records of staff, volunteers, visitors and third-party contractors, to uphold child safety and wellbeing values, policies, systems and procedures in practice and comply with laws and regulations.
This means that we recruit appropriate and suitable staff, provide staff with information training (including induction and ongoing training), monitor and supervise staff child safety and wellbeing practices to support and uphold safeguarding, ensure that volunteers are appropriate and suitable, provide volunteers with information and training, monitor and supervise volunteers.
Our P & C members are asked to provide a current WWCC to Admin and will be asked to review our Code of Conduct. This will also be re-shared with our community in our next newsletter, so we can review the standards as set out for all at Sacred Heart School.
