Revitalising ASPS Indigenous SAKG Project
Amari, a graduate of ASPS (2020), was inspired by her time at the School for Student Leadership to deliver a project that would enhance community spirit and honour our Indigenous heritage. In partnership with Larrakia Consulting Group (led by Tim Werner, of Larrakia heritage), Amari and Tim approached ASPS regarding opportunities to deliver a project at ASPS. With Emily's help, the opportunity to rejuvenate the 20 SAKG boxes was identified, and following was proposed:
1. March: Working Bee to de-weed and replace the soil from the current boxes
2. May: Facilitate an Indigenous Culture session with a nominated grade which includes planting of edible, medicinal and herbal Indigenous plants
3. July: Formal launch of the Indigenous garden for NAIDOC Week (6-13 July) celebrations in Term 3
Thanks to Lisa and Emily for coordinating the Working Bee on Saturday 29 March. We had a terrific team of ASPS students, parents and staff join us!
Exceptional work weeding and mixing up the soil. Planter box #20 was moved, boxes were levelled and ready for Term 2 planting. Check out the incredible work:
