Year 6 Campers Return
Our Year 6 students return from their camp today after 3 days of activities and adventure. Visiting the Forest Edge CYC Camp for the first time, students participated in activities such as river sledding, mountain boarding, crate climbing and much more!
For parents, please note that we expect to be back at ASPS in time for the 2:00pm finish. If this changes, we will let you know via XUNO.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Thank you to all of the grandparents and special friends who visited our school last week as part of our 100th birthday celebrations. As you can see from the photos below, a wonderful time was had by all! Thank you to everyone involved for making this day such a success!
100th Birthday Moonlight Cinema
Thank you to the more than 500 people who attended last Friday's Moonlight Cinema event! A wonderful night was had by all as we celebrated 100 years for ASPS by watching Mufasa under the stars! Heartfelt thanks are extended to our wonderful staff and PA volunteers for organising this great event for our community.
Burgess St Traffic Safety Works
Boroondara City Council have informed the school that traffic safety upgrades will be completed over the school holidays.
These works are part of a broader plan to improve traffic and pedestrian safety in the Hawthorn East education precinct. A further traffic safety audit (that includes Auburn Rd and Tooronga Rd) is planned by Council but this will not commence until the secod half of the year.
It is important to note that the school was not consulted in terms of these specific works on Burgess St and they are not in response to an investigation by Victoria Police or coronial recommendations. As such, any questions should be made directly to Boroondara Council.
Important Road Safety Reminders
A number of parents have raised with me their concerns around traffic safety on Burgess St and Tooronga Rd. Please take a few moments to consider the following:
- Take your time - nothing is more important than being safe on our roads and around the school.
- Use the Kiss and Go Zone to drop students but do not park in these areas
- Students must not exit cars that are not in a designated parking bay. The risk of letting your child/ren out while still in the lane-way is incredibly dangerous.
- All students and family members are asked to cross at the supervised crossing. Amy, our crossing attendant does a wonderful job and will appreciate your help with this.
- Observe all parking signs and road rules. The school will request attendance by Council Parking Officers or Vic Police if this continues to be a problem.
- Aim to arrive by 8:40am for drop-off and if your children are a little older, a 3:40pm pick-up from Burgess St is fine as staff are on duty till 3:45pm.
- Active transport is the best transport!
