Principal's Message

2025 School Theme - Why Team, Why Team Westbreen
Dear Westbreen PS Families,
Thank you once again for your ongoing support in Term 1. Team Westbreen welcomes you back to Term Two. I trust that you all have had a wonderful Term One break and were able to spend some quality time with your children. The students had already settled back in today as I walked through classrooms to say hello.
During Term Two in Inquiry Learning, all classes are investigating various topics. Our Inquiry focus for Term 2 is on:
Families (Intercultural Capability) in our Foundation level
Technology and Design- Years 1-6.
Junior School:
Foundation~ Families
Students will explore their family’s role in ensuring their safety and health. They will learn about and celebrate important cultural events, including significant celebrations in Australia.
Years 1 & 2~ Let’s Be Safe Online
Students will explore the basic features of common digital tools to create, locate, and share content, as well as to collaborate while adhering to agreed-upon behaviours. They will recognise that digital tools may store their personal data online and learn how to stay safe while navigating the digital world at all times.
Middle School:
Years 3 & 4 ~ Technology – Today’s Tool, Tomorrow’s Treasure
Students will explore various uses of technology as forms of communication and how it can be utilised to share valuable information with others. They will research different roles within design and technology and examine how these technologies can address the needs of the community.
Senior School:
Years 5 & 6~ Technology and Design My Future
Students will explore how to describe and consider the design of a specific solution while taking sustainability into account. They will explain how design and technologies contribute to meeting the current and future needs of the community. Students will also investigate how to articulate the features of technologies and their impact on the solutions they create.
Please take the opportunity to discuss your child’s learning journey every night. Sharing their daily experiences helps reinforce their learning. This process culminates in our showcase afternoons, where students love to display their work to their families and the school community as shown at the end of Term 1. It truly is a wonderful school event!
S.T.R.I.V.E Program
We are excited to announce that the S.T.R.I.V.E. program has launched in Term 2 for both our Junior and Senior Schools. For our new families, S.T.R.I.V.E. is a weekly program that lasts for 50 minutes, during which students work in mixed-age groups, ranging from Prep to Year 2 and Year 3 to Year 6. Students explore various topics through engaging group activities, such as gardening and crafts, all of which connect back to the curriculum. Please be aware that your child will participate in each activity for a duration of three weeks. This program emphasises the values of Support, Trust, Respect, Involvement, Value, and Encouragement, as students collaborate with different teachers and students.

ANZAC Day - Friday, April 25
Please note that this Friday will be a student-free day to reflect on the significance of ANZAC Day. Some of our Year 6 student leaders will represent Westbreen Primary School at a commemoration service at the Rogers Memorial Reserve (Prospect Street, Pascoe Vale) at 9:00 a.m. This day is not about glorifying war but about honoring the ANZAC spirit, which was established over a century ago and continues to resonate in Australia.
Lest we forget.
To support the ANZAC appeal, we will be selling pens, badges, keychains, and other merchandise. The Junior School Council (JSC) will manage sales from Tuesday, April 22, to Thursday, April 24. JSC representatives will visit classrooms throughout the day to sell items priced between $2 and $10. Please ensure that students bring the exact amount, as we will not be able to provide change. Thank you for supporting the JSC and the ANZAC appeal.
Whole School Cross Country - Wednesday, April 30
Our school will be hosting the WPS Cross Country Event on Wednesday, 30th of April. Mr. Nolan has prepared a schedule and running courses suitable for the day. We encourage all students to participate and wear their house colours to earn points for their team by either running or walking the course.
We are excited to celebrate this event and would love for our families to come along and support the students.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week of learning in Week 1!
Kind Regards,
Justin Lania
