Harmony Day 2025
March 28th
On Friday, March 28th, EPS hosted a Harmony Day celebration. The entire school came together for a Harmony Day Parade, with students proudly wearing traditional cultural attire or the color orange, which symbolises social communication and meaningful conversations.
Students also participated in a variety of engaging activities, organised by parents, grandparents, and other family members who volunteered to share their cultural knowledge. These activities provided students with a unique opportunity to learn about different cultures and traditions.
During the Harmony Day assembly, students who participated in various activities shared their experiences with the school. Many expressed how much they enjoyed discovering new aspects of other cultures. There was a vibrant Sri Lankan dance performance by one of the students, Hayley, as well as a dynamic Kathak (traditional Indian dance) presentation by dancers Komal and one of the students, Anna.
The school choir performed "Imagine" by John Lennon. The song is about envisioning a world where there are no divisions or conflicts between people, such as those created by borders, religions, or material possessions. Lennon encourages listeners to imagine a world of peace, unity, and harmony, where people live without the barriers that often separate them. The lyrics promote a sense of hope for a better, more inclusive world, free of greed, war, and suffering. The song’s message is deeply idealistic, urging people to dream of a global community based on love, understanding, and shared humanity.
To close the assembly, the students who had taken part in Japanese Soranbushi dancing showcased the moves they had learned. The entire EPS community, including families, staff, and students, joined in the fun and danced together in a joyful celebration of unity and diversity.
It was a truly wonderful day, celebrating our cultural diversity and fostering respect for all who call Australia home. A big thank you to all the families who volunteered their time and contributed to making Harmony Day such a success!
