The 5/6 Learning

Community News

Introduction - Luca F

The warmest of greetings to all of the wonderful members of the EPS Community! It has been a jam-packed few weeks, filled with enlightening events, in-depth learning, and fond memories. We sincerely hope you thoroughly enjoy reading about our recent educational journey.

Literacy - Aiden

In Literacy, we have been reading Tom Appleby, Convict Boy by Jackie French. We have enjoyed reading the book outside when the weather is warm and inside when it’s cold. Through this novel, we have explored the lives of many British citizens in that era. People were convicted for stealing small amounts of money and food, often facing harsh consequences. Life was incredibly difficult for convicts who were shipped to Australia, forced to adapt to a whole new country.

Numeracy - Aiden and Aston

In Mathematics, we have been learning about the BODMAS rule, and now we are focusing on area and perimeter. We have had the amazing opportunity to expand our knowledge in both topics. In our area and perimeter lessons, we learned how to calculate area (length × width) and perimeter by adding all the sides of a shape (length + length + width + width). It has been such a fun term in Maths, and we can’t wait for next term!

Special Events - Luca F

There have been a range of exciting events over the last two weeks! On the 26th of March, students had the opportunity to participate in the KSF Maths Competition. It is the largest maths competition in the world with students putting their problem solving skills to the test. Last Thursday, the 5/6 cohort went on an excursion to the Immigration Museum. Students explored Australia’s migration history and deepened their understanding of this country's cultural diversity. On the 28th of March, EPS celebrated Harmony Day, with activities that promote respect, inclusivity and a sense of belonging. A phenomenal day was had by all!

Conclusion - Luca F

As the first term comes to an end, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, teachers and families for their continued dedication and enthusiasm. From creative pursuits, to academic and athletic triumphs, the students have continued to thrive. We look forward to beginning the next term, refreshed and ready for a new set of challenges. Enjoy the Easter break!
