3/4 Learning Community

What an amazing Term 1 the 3/4 Learning Community have had! We are all looking forward to all the new learning and experiences in Term 2. Some of the highlights have been watching the Matilda Movies, learning more about our own cultures, using number lines in maths, and making google slides!
We - the Journalists- have enjoyed putting our own words into the newsletter and what we've been typing! We decided to do the last one for the term all together.
Thanks for reading - and we hope you have a great holidays!
From The Journalists - Polly, Xavier, Joanna and Ashton.
Literacy:
We have finished the Matilda novel and we are enjoying watching the movie musical to see what has been added and taken away from the original story. We have been publishing our narratives and printing them out to illustrate on them. We did a big SpellEx test at the end of Term to see what we know and what we learnt. Some parts were tricky! We also had the songs for words to remind us how to spell some words like:
"F A V - O U R - I T E... FAVOURITE!"

Maths:
We have been doing multiplication and division. Some of us have been using materials to make arrays, or fact family houses, and worded problems some of them were a bit tricky, like when you had to use percentages. We have have been liking prime numbers and how to figure them out. We've been doing the arrays to help us swap the numbers around and been doing different time tables. We have also been focusing on how to divide and use multiplication to help us like for the 9s, 11s and 6s.

Inquiry:
After all of our research we have made slides to present our information to another 3/4 class. We logged into our Google accounts and started to use our slides to add pictures and information. We have focused on making this amazing for our community audience. We also learned how to make a video! And some of us did 3D cardboard presentations. This whole Inquiry unit has been very fun to work with our partner and learn about other peoples cultures. We were so lucky to have Harmony Day while our Inquiry unit was on because we got to meet the real families and parents at EPS and they shared their culture with us. The 3/4s got to make kimbap from Korea, make hand drums from Korea, make rice balls from Japan, write our names in hieroglyphics from Egypt, and write our names in Burmese. Thank you to the parents for coming and making it a great day!

Wellbeing:
We have been learning about mindfulness tools and how to relax properly. The three ways we learned are:
Meditation - where you lay down or get comfy and relax one body part at a time.
Deep Belly Breathing - where we took very big breaths into our bellies and practised the 5 point breathing.
Colouring- we learnt that colouring isn't about talking to your friends. You need to stay very quiet and concentrate on the stroke and the shading of the parts.
