Celebrating Cultural  Day

On Tuesday the 25th March, we are having an incursion to celebrate Harmony Day. We invite you all to wear traditional cultural clothing or adding a touch of orange to celebrate Harmony Day. The incursion will involve an Indonesian Puppetry Performance where we will learn about Indonesian history and culture.

Harmony week is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings us together with people from different backgrounds.

It is important because people in our society can face stereotyping, racism and bullying due to their race and culture. Racism whether strong or not, creates division and pain, and it breaks the principles of equality and respect which are things we value most at our school.

True harmony comes from accepting, understanding, and kindness toward one another, no matter our race or family. By all supporting we can build a school where everyone feels valued.

A bystander is someone who sees or overhears an action that is harmful, unethical, or inappropriate but still does nothing despite what is happening.

We want to encourage you to be upstanders. These are people who stand up for diversity and help to educate people about racism. You can do this by telling people to stop when they are acting in a harmful way or telling a teacher about that behaviour.

This harmony day, we encourage you to ask questions about people’s culture and perspective.

This harmony day, we want to celebrate the things that make us different and remember that our differences is what makes us stronger.
