Curriculum Update

Literacy at Westbreen Primary School this term
The students at W.P.S have been busy exploring the world of books. They have been writing up a storm this term using an array of writing devices to create beautiful stories to capture their amazing imaginations.
What have the students been reading?
The Grade 5/6 students have been reading the novel Holes in class.
‘It’s enjoyable and interesting.’ ‘It’s getting more interesting’.
Zaynab and Serine
A snapshot of writing!
This term the Grade 3 and 5 students have been working on creating interesting descriptive sentences to further enhance their writing.
Here are some fabulous writing pieces from some of the students:
Ah, what a nice day washing my beautiful brown hair. Ooo! Some bubbles from the shampoo and conditioner are popping. My hair is wet, clean, frizzy and pretty. I squeeze my hair to make it dry. It’s brushed and wonderful. Now I’m clean and fresh!
Lily
As I brush the unicorn’s hair I have fun. I feel joy and happiness. The rainbow, fluffy, pretty hair is so cute and clean. Now it is brushed it smells good, like wonderful, sweet grapes. Mackenzie
A koala is cute, fluffy and small. They have shiny eyes, a black nose like a triangle and a small mouth. The grey/white fur is soft as a pillow.
Knox
One rainy day I woke up and I heard a big sound. Boom, Boom, Boom! White and yellow flashes of lightening scare me. I hear a big, scary and wet storm as it hitting my window and roof.
Emily
Keep up the great work everyone. We look forward to seeing all the amazing reading and writing next term!
*We will celebrate our numeracy achievements from the term in the newsletter at the beginning of next term—stay tuned!
Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge has begun. The students have been busy reading and recording their favourite books on the list for this year’s challenge. Some of my classic favourites being, The Hungry Caterpillar, Koala Lou and Animalia just to name a few. There are these books and more in the school library ready to be borrowed and added to your Premiers Reading Challenge list. Your local library is also a great place to explore loads of amazing books. You may even like to list the books that you have at home too!
The students that meet the challenge will be presented with a certificate and small gift later this year at the school assembly. If you would like to join the challenge, please register via the Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge 2025 registration page.
Happy reading everyone!
