Year 12 Camp

Camps and Pathways Week

Although I had heard many amazing things about year 12 camp, I never truly understood how valuable the whole experience would be for me. From rooming with my closest friends to doing activities with the whole cohort, it was a time to relax, enjoy, and reminisce over my years here at Nossal. A key moment for me was our second night, when Miss Budd played the first song we sang together as a cohort at HPAF: 'Try Everything'. Seeing everyone link arms and sing together filled me with a sense of gratitude, being surrounded by the people I can confidently call my home away from home.

I thoroughly enjoyed camp, being with my friends, and engaging in new activities. I want to thank Ms Ball, Ms Soltys, and all the teachers who took the time to come to camp and take care of us- we are all so thankful and have left camp with a plethora of memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

Nervous energy, laughter, and chatter filled the Hall on an early Wednesday morning. Over two hundred Year 12s set off to the beach at Lord Somers for our final school camp. Since the arrival, excitement sparking within each corner of the cohort. Shout out to my boys and teachers in Group 4 which we all knew this camp was going to be something special. After a warm welcome from the Lord Somers staff who would each become our group leaders for the rest of camp, we jumped straight into our first activity. It was quite relaxing for our group having a beach activity first particularly on an extremely hot day.

Over the three days, we took part in a variety of activities all the way from Beach Games, Raft Building, Stand-Up Paddleboarding, Surfing, Snorkelling and Kayaking to Indigenous Cultural Learning. The Initiative Challenges putting our teamwork to the test, and Screen Printing letting us get creative. Each activity had its own feel, but they all pushed us out of our comfort zones and brought us closer together. From a stunning sunrise to a tremendous sunset, activities with our groups to raving in our cabins, we were enjoying our time.

The first night, we were presented with a ‘trivia night’ with a multitude of exciting activities from general knowledge to Lip Sync battles where my group “Timeless” won it all amongst the rest of the insanely competitive cohort.

One of the most memorable moments of the whole of camp was the talent show which was on our final night. I was lucky enough to be part of it, and it was incredible to see everyone showcase their talent from insane Musicians to dancing with a touch of Karaoke. The energy was unreal, with the whole year level cheering each other on resulting in quite a wholesome moment.

A huge thank you to the staff at Lord Somers for making this camp such an amazing experience, and to Nossal for giving us this wonderful opportunity. And of course, to every single Year 12 who made this camp one to remember.

Last week, the Year 12 students embarked on a trip to their last school camp, Lord Somers Camp, where they formed unforgettable memories and friendships.

Through adventurous activities such as surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, and raft building, our activity leaders provided us with motivating insights into the joy of these outdoor activities—which we ended up loving, despite the strenuous weightlifting of different equipment.

Additionally, the talent show and trivia night highlighted many of our experiences, so thank you to all the teachers and camp staff for dedicating their time to providing us with this memorable experience. The valuable outcomes we learned from the variety of events and late nights we spent debriefing the days felt endless, and by the end of it, we knew we'd miss it so much.
