Mock Interviews
Camps and Pathways Week
Our students completed interview preparation which was a comprehensive process of researching a company, practicing responses to potential questions, preparing concrete examples of your skills, and organizing logistics to present yourself confidently and competently during a job interview.
Nossal High School engaged Arrive and Thrive to work with our students to help in workshop tools to improve employment outcomes and job satisfaction by developing career management skills, self-development capabilities, and positive mindsets.
The workshop focused on helping students create meaningful careers and fulfilling lives through a Human Centered Design approach that:
"We learnt about the various aspects of job seeking and interviewing, focusing mainly on interview skills. I will apply this knowledge in the future when interviewing for jobs."
"I learnt how to do well in an interview, what employers look for and important life skills at I could use when applying for a job."
"I think the most useful thing I learnt was how to structure an elevator pitch. I intend to write elevator pitches in future as I found the ability to rely on a prepared response to increase my confidence."
"I learnt effective and useful interview skills that I will utilise for the rest of my life. I also learnt useful communication skills."
"I learnt how to successfully sit an interview, and also more about what I value in a professional workplace. I will apply this knowledge for future interviews and when looking for jobs."
You could feel the excitement in the hall as the Year 10s participated in their mock interviews.
It was a wonderful opportunity to get a feel for the job interview process, without any pressure, and everyone loved rising to the challenge of selling themselves.
The interviewers were so kind, positive, and informative that it felt less like an interview and more like a chat between friends.
It was an awesome confidence boost and a sneak peek of what’s in store in the future!

During Camps and Pathways Week, we, as Year 10 students, participated in a mock interview process where we selected a job and created a CV and cover letter to present to our practice interviewers. This experience was designed to help us develop essential job application and interview skills.
A CV (Curriculum Vitae) typically includes personal details, a professional summary, work experience, education, skills, and certifications. Depending on the industry, it may also feature sections for achievements, publications, languages, and references. A well-crafted cover letter complements the CV by introducing the applicant, stating the desired position, summarizing relevant skills and experiences, and concluding with enthusiasm for the role and a request for an interview. It should be concise, tailored to the job, and effectively highlight why the candidate is a strong fit for the position.
As the year 10s lined up near the Phoenix house area, excitement but also nervousness filled the air. Our practice interviewers were experienced professionals from various fields who generously volunteered their time to support us, but little did we know that there was nothing to worry about as they provided a welcoming and constructive environment, offering insights and feedback on our performance.
This was a very valuable experience for our cohort as we got to apply our newly learnt skills into a formal, real-life setting. Their encouragement and guidance made the experience both memorable and educational, helping us understand our strengths and identify areas for improvement.
On behalf of the Year 10s, we sincerely thank the Nossal staff, Berwick and Narre Warren Rotarians, Federation University staff, Nossal Staff Alumni and parents and friends of Nossal who were involved in providing us this unique and very beneficial experience!!

"I feel that I was prepared for the interview, as most of the questions were ones I was expecting, I think the interviewer being someone we didn't know was the most useful part, as even though it was a bit tense it prepares you more for future interviews."
"I learnt about common questions that are asked in an interview and about posture and eye-contact. I will apply this knowledge when I go for interviews for jobs I apply for in the future."
"I felt prepared for my interview. Having an unknown third-party interview me, made the experience more realistic and prepared me best."
"I think the confidence I gained was probably the most useful aspect of the interview in terms of preparing me for my future career."
"The most useful aspect for me was the fact that they gave me structure on how to approach various questions that were being asked. Through this, I was able to effectively answer challenging questions, which is a skill I will use in my future career."
