What a busy time it has been during these final two weeks of the term!

The Prep teachers are very proud of our Prep students for completing their first term of school. They have adjusted well to the routines of school life and have shown their ability to persevere with their learning. We wish all our students and families a relaxing break and are very much looking forward to continuing with our learning and fun in Term 2.

Our learning

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL):

-To practise ways to self-calm and talk about what we like to do to calm ourselves.

-To learn about what we can say to ourselves when we need to manage our strong emotions and how to manage strong emotions with positive self-talk.

English:

-Our phonics lessons will be focusing on the sounds the letters ‘b’, 'h' and 'n' make and discover words and objects that begin with those sounds, as well as practising writing those letters.

-Practise verbalising words and identifying how many syllables there are in each.

-Make text-to-self connections with the texts we are reading, read 'Anzac Ted' and discuss the significance of Anzac Day. As well as exploring fairytales and the characters within them.

-We will also be using Hartley to practise forming the 'candy cane', 'open ball' and 'ball shapes'.

Maths:

-Continue to build our knowledge of concepts such as subitising, counting, forming digits and pattern in our Maths Daily Review.

-Use addition to count what two numbers make when they are put together.

-Create addition number stories with the use of story boards and manipulatives.

Inquiry:

-To understand that many things change over time and give examples of things that change over time.

Friendly Reminders:

-Students are required to bring their blue Reader bag to school daily to enable teachers to place new sounds being learnt in their phonics books, as well as checking in on students' knowledge of letter sounds.
