Exciting Times in Year 5 at Hillsmeade Primary School!

It has been a busy fortnight for Year 5, filled with learning, creativity, and fun activities!

In English, we've been diving into narratives, focusing on dialogue and build-up. Our students have been mastering how to use dialogue to bring their stories to life and punctuate it correctly. They've also been identifying and incorporating build-up in their writing, making their narratives even more captivating.

In Mathematics, we wrapped up our Place Value unit. Our students have been renaming numbers using place value mentally and rounding numbers to different place values with confidence.

Survivor Day was amazing! All of the students' hard work to prepare paid off! It was fantastic to see our students working together as a team to achieve common goals. They came up with creative team names, mascots, flags, parodies, dance moves, and uniforms. They worked together to complete all the activities in the round robin. Unanimously, their favourite activity was tug-of-war. The teamwork and enthusiasm were truly inspiring!

We also participated in our first "Buddy Program." This is the first time we have been the big buddies, and it was wonderful spending time with our prep buddies to complete a Harmony Day activity.

Harmony Day was a vibrant celebration of our diverse community. Students dressed in their cultural clothes or added a touch of orange to their outfits. Harmony Day is all about celebrating diversity, promoting inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Our Cross Country event was another highlight. It was wonderful to see students cheering each other on and pushing themselves to achieve their personal bests. The spirit of encouragement and determination was palpable.

Crazy Hair Day brought out the creativity in everyone! The hair designs were incredibly imaginative and impressive, adding a splash of fun to our school day.
