Future You Day

What a fabulous day we had on the last day of Term 2 for our second annual Future You Day. This day focusses on our students across Years 5-8 as they begin to consider what life might be like beyond school. 

The day began with a heavy fog and excitement in the air as a plethora of presenters arrived and set up in the College Hall for the Careers Fair. Diverse industries and organisations were represented - with everything from emergency services, to plumbing, building, farming, financial services, the law, physiotherapy, vounteering and tertiary study on offer for students to explore. Our wonderful Year 11 VM students were also on hand to support students to have their photo taken in the photo booth, and make a pledge to their future career on the Future You board. While exploring all the booths, students had their passports signed to go into the draw for a lucky door prize!

After a quick recess, students then headed off to their Futures Workshop - a chance to explore a lifeskill or future hobby. While some students headed out on a bike ride, others got their zen on with some yoga. Students also explored digital scrapbooking, 2-dimensional art, life organisation, first aid and sports volunteering. The more daring students participated in a boxing or KyFit workshop, while a lucky few were able to both make, and eat, home made gnocchi, potato chips and mug cakes. There were so many workshops on offer that no one was left without something exciting to experience.

By the time lunch rolled around, students were treated to a free sausage courtesy of Chaplaincy and Main Street Butchers Kyabram, and had the chance to have their face painted by the amazing Hilary. Rumour has it Mr Coombs also put his hand to some face painting, before realising that manning the BBQ was more his speed.

We'd like to express a massive thank you to all the staff, parents, industries, businesses and organisations who gave up their time, resources and expertise to come in and help make this a great day. It is the generosity of our amazing community which allows us to create these fantastic experiences for our students.

Our aim is for this annual event to continue to grow every year, and we encourage anyone who thinks they may have something to offer for either the Careers Fair or the Futures Workshop to get in touch with either Rowena Morris or Kaitlyn Souter at the college. We are already planning for 2027 - so it's never too early to book your slot!
