Learning

A Fantastic Start to Term 3

Welcome to Term 3! It has been fantastic to see our students settle back into routines so quickly, returning to school ready to learn, challenging themselves and supporting one another.

Classrooms have been buzzing with rich learning experiences. Students have embraced new concepts with enthusiasm, shown persistence when learning has been challenging and demonstrated the positive learning behaviours we value at St Joseph's.

As part of our Living Well, Learning Well framework, we encourage every child to see themselves as a learner. This means working together as a learning team, trying their best, getting back on track when redirected, asking thoughtful questions about their learning and ensuring their actions support the learning of others. These simple but powerful habits help create calm, purposeful classrooms where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Supporting Learning at Home

One of the best ways to support your child's learning is simply by talking with them about their day.

Instead of asking, "What did you do today?" (which often gets the response, "Nothing!"), try asking questions that encourage your child to reflect on their learning:

  • What was something new you learned today?
  • What challenged you today? How did you work through it?
  • What are you most proud of from today?
  • Who did you learn with today?
  • How did you help someone else's learning today?
  • What would you like to get even better at tomorrow?

These conversations help children develop the language of learning, recognise their own progress and celebrate the effort they put into growing every day.

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping our students arrive at school ready to learn. Together, we are creating a positive learning community where every child is encouraged to thrive as a confident, capable and reflective learner.
