Religious Education and Inquiry

Our 3/4 cohort have shown respect and reverence as they embrace our morning prayer time. Each class has set up their own morning prayer routine. As a continuation of this each class has also brainstormed and created their own prayer cloths to represent both the individuals in each class and our school wide value of courage. During Religion lessons we have continued our learning about Lent and Holy Week, specifically looking at each of the special days leading up to Easter Sunday. We continue to look deeply at the traditions as customs we engage within as a Catholic community, and those traditions of other countries and cultures.

Our Inquiry focus of ‘Building Healthy and Active Communities’ has continued to guide our lessons. Students have been exploring what it means to be healthy, active citizens of the community and have engaged in rich conversations about the different communities we belong to. Cyber safety and effectively using technology have also become a strong focus in this unit. As a part of this students have been participating in typing club to build these skills.

Reading & Writing-

Our investigation of  “James and the Giant Peach'' written by Roald Dahl has continued to guide our learning. Students have enjoyed listening to the story and unpacking Roald Dahls creative storytelling. Alongside comprehension activities and our CAFE strategies, students have also been using their devices in a safe way  to investigate Roald Dahl.  In Writing we have continued to learn about the text structure of a recount. We are working to create a clear and concise introduction to begin our writing pieces.

Additionally, we have begun the year with a focus on handwriting. You can speak with your child about cat letters. This is a technique to help direct focus on writing on the appropriate lines, to improve letter formation. You may want to practice some of the head, body or tail letters. You can ask if your child can recall all the ‘body’ letters?

Mathematics-

Students have continued their learning in mathematics through our investigation of addition and subtraction.  They have had the opportunity to approach this learning in a number of different ways and build upon their mathematical reasoning to justify their understanding.  Alongside this students have also been encouraged to continue their learning of times tables. Students have been working to identify their own personal goals and what area they would like to learn more about. Regarding addition and subtraction, you may want to engage in activities and conversations such as creating shopping lists with the prices of items, or adding and subtracting measurements of ingredients when cooking.
