The theme of Project Compassion 2024 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impacting the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues.
We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in support of Project Compassion. Each family will have now received a Project Compassion box for you to make donations as a family or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at:
www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion
As a school we have decided for the last four Fridays leading up to Holy Week, we will have some whole school initiatives to raise funds as a school for Project Compassion. We ask that your child bring a/or as many gold coins as they wish to donate, to participate in the festivities each week commencing on Friday March 1, the first day of Autumn.
Please see the amended outline which was also sent out on the Audiri app to show that Pyjama day will be held on the last day of the term
NOT this Friday due to our school closure days.
Last Friday was CRAZY SOCKS DAY and it was a huge success raising $224. We are most grateful for everyone's contribution.
We are going to challenge that total and see if we can raise more or close to doubling the amount of money raised for crazy socks for the next initiative which will be CRAZY HAIR DAY on March 15.
If students bought in $1 last week and next time $2, please talk with your children about that and entice them to see if that would support us in increasing the donation for Caritas?
St Patrick's day is March 17 (which is a Sunday). We will celebrate this feast day the following week on Tuesday 19 and have a whole school competition to see which class can make the longest line on the basketball court made up of silver coins only!!!
Start collecting now as many silver coins as you can in preparation for this day.
Family Mass -
On Sunday March 17 it is the Year 1/2 Family Mass.
We would like to welcome and invite all Year 1/2 students and their families to attend this Mass. If you are interested in participating in the liturgy, Julie will be looking for a family to do the offertory procession and some parents and students to read the readings and prayers of the faithful. Please email Julie if you would like to participate: jmcintyre@olgcdeepdene.catholic.edu.au
As for hospitality, Nanette from the parish will be in contact with the class reps to support her in the catering. In addition, if you would like to bring a plate to share at the conclusion of Mass, that would be most kind and helpful. Thankyou in advance.
WEEKLY MASSES
Throughout the year, all classes rotate and attend weekly Mass with their class at 9:15am.
This year we will be attending weekly Masses on Friday mornings with Bishop Hart and families are most welcome to join in the celebration with your children.
Please note that the class rostered on for Mass will not attend assembly that morning however, the students receiving the award will stay with a neighbouring class so they are present to receive their acknowledgement.
Please note that some of our whole school Masses are on Wednesdays.
