Principal's Report

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

We are officially more than half way through first term and from my observation, classrooms are full of organised fun and learning. We have had several more enrolments in the past few weeks, bringing our total enrolment to 185. We offer a warm welcome to all those students and families. We hope you settle in quickly to your new educational home with us.

It has again been a busy two weeks in the sporting space. We hosted the MWC swimming at Mortlake on a chilly day in week 4. Our students were, once again triumphant in the pool, but also on the pool deck where sportsmanship reigned supreme. Thanks to Ms Lodge for all her work in hosting the other schools.

Our primary team also acquitted themselves well at the Divisional swimming in Warrnambool last Friday.

We were blessed with magnificent weather for our house athletics last week. We are very fortunate to have an entire staff willing to work so cooperatively on such a mammoth task. We managed to get through the whole program with seconds to spare before getting on the buses to come home, evidence of a tightly organised schedule from Mr Reichman and Ms Lodge. There were some fabulous performances on the day, including the refresh of a couple of long standing records and the work of the non competitors preparing food in the canteen. It was also wonderful to have so many friends and family attend to support us. If you have any feedback about the sports, please pass it onto our sports’ coordinators.

Our Parents’ Association have their major fundraiser, the Te Mania bull sale this week. Cake boxes have been sent home with every family. If you are able to contribute we would really appreciate it. Parents’ Association funds help us to provide many of the ‘extras’ for our students that government funding does not cover.

Our student leadership team were presented with their badges and certificates today. At Mortlake College we always refer to leadership as a verb rather than a noun and already this group are proving that actions speak louder than words. Our senior captains, Ashton Maher & Lily Schurring are running assembly each week, sports’ captains Elise Killen and Hamish Hobbs have been great ambassadors for our inter school teams, well being captain Molly Goddard is on hand every week for school breakfasts, arts’ captain Isabella Pickford has the rehearsal space for Lion King well under control and the house captains have been kept very busy with sporting events. Our middle school leaders will attend the Student Leadership Congress tomorrow and will then take the lead with our Food Bank fundraiser later in the term.

Please remember that parent/teacher interviews have been set for the March 25th from 11am – 6pm. There will be no classes on that day. 10 minute booking slots will be available on Sentral soon.

Congratulations to our cricketers on their recent success. It’s wonderful to see our students thriving in the community. If you know of any other wonderful events that our students are participating in, please let us know. It’s great to be able to share those successes.
