Girls Super 8 Cricket

Two Teams (Year 7 and Year 10) Finish Runner-Up @ Upper Hume

We had a terrific bunch of 36 girls across 5 teams competing today at the Upper Hume Girls Super 8 Cricket carnival at the Barr Reserve.

Pitted against the other 7 secondary schools in our region, we had two teams that finished an admirable 2nd.

The Year 7 Girls team (Amelie Booth, Isabella Boulton, Paige-Lee Dummett, Georgia KellyZara McCraePolly Oats, Shaylah Williams and Annabelle Wills) kicked off their campaign winning a thriller of an opening match against Catholic College Wodonga 107-104This was a huge win against a school of 1250 students - more than double our size. We then went on to crush Victory Lutheran College Wodonga, 197-74, which was enough to win our pool and book a place in the Final.

In the Final against crosstown rivals Cathedral College, our Year 7s put up a great fight and fell only just short, 92-119. Wicket tackers in the Final were Polly Oats and Zara McCrae who picked up one each, with Zara's over conceding zero runs.

Great stuff by our Year 7s, most of whom were playing their 1st Upper Hume comp. How about Paige-Lee and Georgia thoughbacking up from their Runner-Up place Swimming at Wodonga last Thursday. Tremendous signs that we have a talented cohort of Year 7s on our hands.

Our Year 10 team (Ava ByrneStevie DriscollPieper GottschlingJayla KeysEllie Meggs, Georgia MeggsZoi Miliankos-King and Jada Ryan) executed a demolition of Wodonga Middle Years' Huon Campus in their opener, 201-97. Their Final was also against a crosstown-rival, this time Galen, who got us 83-173.  Pieper Gottschling, Georgia Meggs and Jada Ryan were our wicket takers in the Final. Jada is another to bring home her 2nd Upper Hume Runner-Up placing in the space of the last 3 school days.

Another team to impress was our Year 9 team (Lily Byrne, Erin CollinsJedda DriscollMilly O'Kane, Kyanna PayneCasey Sheppard and London Sloan). Playing in the Intermediate competition, and drawn to play the Catholic College Wodonga "A Team" (which would have been made up of mostly Year 10s) they came within 5 runs of victory, going down 117-122. A massive effort - they finished the day with a 3-1 record and would have likely won a straight-Year 9 competition.

Our Year 8 team (Tirandi AbeyawardanaCiara Bennett, Alexis CoxLiv DayKaity FordHallie HartLeila Hyland and Ruby O'Kane) were missing some guns and also had a tough draw, going down to Catholic College Wodonga 108-164 and then narrowly to Victory Lutheran College 85-107.

Thanks also to our Year 8 "B Team" who, with just 3 players (Ruby DeFazioLanie Evans and Bella White) due to some players pulling out to illness, soldiered on to lose one match by just 2 runs (105-107) and another 60-117.

Big thank you to our four Year 8 boys who helped coach and score (Lachlan Downing, Clarence LampaHugh Spring and Zach Wills). A special day for the Wills family, with Zach coaching younger sister Annabelle.

Thanks too to staff Andrea Belci, Jaime Ryan and Ash Clayton for looking after the kids. Massive thank you again to Newmo, who again volunteered her time to run the carnival.

We now set our sights on Volleyball. All Year 9s and 10s wanting to play, see you at Try Outs this Thursday lunchtime for the Intermediate Volleyball teams, who play onMonday 18th March at the Wodonga Leisure Centre.
