Year 3

Hello from 3H

What a start to the year we have had in 3H! From our team building activities in the classroom and outside, to building our Rigor and Routine and classroom expectations together.

In Mathematics we have been focusing on not only how to answer a question, but more so how to show our working and thought process behind the answer. 3H have been using a range of written, hands on and verbal strategies to explain and show our thought processes throughout a maths lesson. Students enjoyed the challenge when asked to use items from around the room to show how they have achieved their answers, in a series of worded maths problems. Through the use of multiplicative thinking students showed they could draw, create and describe the answers to their Numeracy problems.

In Literacy, 3H have been enjoying the chance to explore different genres of books, explore the library and now enter the LEXILE section for the first time! Students have enjoyed the opportunity each morning to head off the library to borrow books from their levelled sections. Along with borrowing new books the students have been enjoying comprehension tasks and text-based activities about our class Novel ‘The Witches’. Children have developed character description, setting identification and chapter reviews. The real question left in 3H’s minds is… could you be a witch?

Well if that wasn’t enough excitement in the classroom, we have also had the opportunity to participate in a First Aid response program, where the students were able to learn DRSABCD and a large range of information about how to react and act in an emergency situation. Students loved the chance to get hands on a practise the ‘Recovery Position’ with their partners.
