Prep

Last Friday our Preps helped clean up the school as part of ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ at Yarra Road. They collected lots of rubbish found in the garden beds around the canteen. The whole school took part and our school grounds looked amazing after we had finished. 

On Wednesday 13th March, our Prep students came to school with big smiles ready for their very first school photos. They enjoyed posing with their classmates and having their individual photos taken.

On Monday 18th March we celebrated Crazy Hair Day, raising important funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. Students came to school with sprayed hair, crazy hairstyles and wigs to support this JSC fundraiser for this term.

Congratulations to our elected Prep JSC Representatives who were voted by their classmates to attend regular meetings and to represent ‘student voice’ across the school, bringing together their ideas and assisting with special events days at our school. Congratulations to Lewis C in Prep A and Amber A in Prep B. These students will receive their JSC badges at our final assembly for the term.

In Reading, our students have taken home their first decodable books to read and share at home each night. We have been concentrating on learning the ‘heart words', (I, a, and, said, the). Each Friday morning, we have an assessment of the children’s learning of the sounds/letters and words. We are so proud of our students and what they have learned so far at school. They are now writing some of these words and finding them in their personal reading and finding them in their books from the library.

In Maths we have been learning about numbers to 10. We have been tracing the numbers, counting the numbers, reading stories such as ‘Counting Crocodiles’, playing number bubbles outside, and learning the days of the week to the ‘Addams Family’ chant.

In History we have been learning about the different kinds of families and how each family is special and unique.

In Geography we have been learning about natural and man-made features. We have been learning that places that are special to us such as the park, the beach, their house, school. The children drew a picture of their special place in their integrated studies book.

What an amazing first term our Prep students have completed. We wish you all a very Happy Easter and look forward to an exciting Term 2 filled with lots of wonderful learning opportunities and experiences.
