Hospitality Students Experience Working in Resort Life!

The two Year 12 (SIT20322) Certificate II Hospitality classes from Marist College Ashgrove had the unique opportunity to participate in an immersion experience at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast in two separate overnight excursions from February 27-28 and February 29-March 1, 2024.

The immersion experience was designed to expose the students to various aspects of jobs and roles within the resort industry, such as Front Office Operations, Concierge, Reservations, Housekeeping, Kitchen food and beverage, event logistics, engineering and security, golf, and spa. The students were mentored by experienced staff members and learned valuable skills and knowledge that will enhance their future career prospects.

The students also worked in and observed the resort’s extensive facilities, including the 27-hole championship golf course, five professional tennis courts, extensive gymnasium and weights facilities, the outdoor lagoon pool, the new water park, and the five restaurants.

The immersion experience was a rewarding and memorable one for the students, who expressed their gratitude to the resort staff and their teachers for their support and guidance. Throughout the job rotations, the students were observed and assessed by the Hospitality Teaching Staff, Ms Sue Going, Ms Robyn Gooley, and Mr Andrew Devoy. Throughout the experience, the students also demonstrated the Marist values of hospitality, family spirit, humility, and simplicity during their stay.

The SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality is one of the senior VET curriculum options offered at Marist College Ashgrove. It aims to provide students with a holistic education that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. The course covers customer service, communication, hygiene, safety, and teamwork.
