Inside the Boardroom

April 2024

This month, the management team had a virtual Check-In meeting.

Among the key topics discussed were:

  • Quarter End
  • Submission of APCO
  • Long Range Planning
  • Sub-Committees
  • Annual Leave

A key focus of this meeting was our required actions to maximise our 2nd quarter through all of our businesses. Even though this will be a very busy month, we believe that with strong teamwork and commitment we are in good shape to DWWSWWD (Do What We Say We Will Do). As a reminder, we have a 5 week trading month with the last day for invoicing being Friday, 3 May.

Each year, APCO (The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation) require member companies such as Toro Australia to submit an APCO Annual Report and an APCO Action Plan. The document provides the overall performance level of the organisation, as well as any commitments they have made to work towards on their packaging sustainability journey.

The management team recognised Kelly Grange, Product Marketing Manager, Garden, for her tremendous effort in putting together and submitting our yearly report to the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation.

Kelly did an outstanding job in going above and beyond her normal work duties to meet the required deadline. Well done and thank you Kelly.

As per my update at our previous Team Talk, we are currently in the process of completing our Long Range Planning for the fiscal years F'25 through F'27.

I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to date in this detailed and significant process. There is still much to do with the next stages being some further 1 on 1 and group meetings in Adelaide next week. I am hopeful that we should have the Toro Australia LRP finalised for final review by mid-June.

As we move out of our busy season, we plan to redirect our attention towards the sub-committees in order to facilitate the delivery of the next set of action items. There were several action items for each committee, divided into three categories: Now, Soon, and Later. We have completed all of the Now action items and are currently analysing the Soon action items, some of which have already been put into practice.

Some of the items include:

  • Focus on local schools, sporting clubs (Aligned with staff)
  • Increase promotion and communication awareness of activities (easier access for company support)
  • Review Telematics policy and performance
  • Invest in employees to be Mental First Aiders
  • Develop communication process / policy for identifying and reporting hazards (eg: make it easier)
  • Improve impact and value of Owners Day
          - Interactive with more presenters
          - Include products to learn
          - Include team building exercises
  • Bring back achievement awards (Circle of Excellence)

The topic of annual leave was also brought up, and everyone was reminded that since Anzac Day falls on Thursday, 25 April, it would be a good idea for non-essential workers to take Friday, 26 April, as a leave day. Please contact your manager to discuss further.

I want to thank each and every one of you again for helping to make our company the successful enterprise that it is. I have full confidence that we will continue to deliver on expectations and DWWSWWD.

Sincerely

Laurence
