1/2 News…

Last Monday, we went on our first excursion of the year to CERES School of Nature and Climate in Brunswick East.

The students had a fantastic day out in the open, learning about the natural world around them and what makes our Australian country so special. This ties in well to our unit of work on 'My Special Place', in which our students have been learning about the environments around them from school and home to the wider community.

Our first activity was learning about the unique animals that we share the land with. Our students got to dress up as kangaroos, cockatoos, eels and frogs to act out the story of Tiddalik.

Next, we went on a bush walk. We learnt about the plants that surround us and how we can use them to survive in the bush. Some of these plants were edible, and our students got to taste bush food directly from the source! A fan favourite was the Saltbush, which tasted like potato chips.

Lastly, we played an Indigenous game which involved kicking a ball made of possum skin as high as we could to a partner. We learnt that this game was adapted to help create AFL, which made us all very excited to play.

What a fantastic excursion, and a fantastic way to learn about the special land on which we live.
