Principal's Report

Mrs Larissa Vesdrevanis

This week, the school captains, Mrs. Hodgson, and I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Dream, Lead Youth conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre. It was a truly inspiring day filled with thought-provoking speakers and discussions on authentic leadership, building resilience, and nurturing a strong sense of self in today's social landscape.

In this edition of Snippets, JZ, Lucy, Andre, and Eleanor will share their reflections from the conference on the 5/6 page. Additionally, the captains will be preparing a presentation for the entire 5/6 cohort next term to pass on the valuable knowledge gained from the conference.

The infographic presented encapsulates the key concepts and highlights from the

conference, with a particular focus on the fundamental idea that self-leadership is the cornerstone of effective leadership—a principle that we can all strive to embody. One definition of leadership is to influence and guide. In the upcoming weeks and throughout Term 2, we will delve deeper into these concepts with our students, particularly emphasising the importance of resilience. Unpacking the concept of resilience with our students is important, especially in light of our new catchphrase to end every assembly: "Stay Brilliant and Resilient."

Neurodiversity Week

Neurodiversity Week is an exciting addition to the Donvale Calendar, and I am thrilled that our school will be celebrating it. A big thank you to Emily Wallis for gathering ideas from parents and students to raise awareness and appreciation for neurodiversity. Don't forget to wear your Silly Socks next week to show your support!

Although, Village OSHC have a number of staff returning to university for study and so we would like to extend recruitment to our school community.  If you are interested in the OSHC assistant position, please contact Village OSHC.

School Council 2024

I am pleased to report that we had community support for nominations for School Council therefore we did not need to go to a ballot. We look forward to having our first meeting of school council next week with our new council members for 2024. We will be electing our office bearers at this meeting after which I will update the community with a list of council members via Compass Newsfeed.

School Holidays

The school holidays are fast approaching, and I would like to share with the Donvale Community that I will be travelling to Toronto, Canada to spend some time with my 85-year-old mum and family over the holiday period. I will be taking a few days leave on either side of the holidays to allow for travel time. Michelle Rassias will be Acting Principal in my absence.
