This week cross country training has begun with students entering a 'Most Laps of the Oval Competition', to see how many laps they can run, gaining points for their house, while at the same time preparing for our House Cross Country next term. It's great seeing students becoming involved and running around the oval at recess and lunchtimes. Laps are tallied for each house on counters and we can't wait to see which house will take the prize for this competition. Who will it be?
To help students prepare for long distance running, we also ask that students practice running for a good period of time and for as frequently as possible from now and through the holiday's, in preparation for cross country.
Our year 5 and 6 students attended their first day of Summer Interschool Round Robin for the term on Thursday 7th March. Round Robin days are where we compete against 7 other schools within the Doncaster district, in 5 different sports. It was a day of firsts with many of our year 5’s experiencing it for the very first time. It was even more exciting to see many smiles and lots of enthusiasm throughout the day, with some students commenting on the bus home that they LOVED Round Robin. Our summer sports include Tennis, Basketball, Cricket, Softball and Rounders. Everyone gave it their all within their selected sports last week and we can’t wait for the next one on the 27th March.
There are many holiday and afterschool programs in various sports, where students can become involved and gain more knowledge and skills in sports they enjoy. You can check out our community news page for just some sporting opportunities in an around the community, like this one from Softball Victoria.
