Snapshot of Learning by Grade 6

Last week, the Year 6 students headed to Camp Coolamatong near Lakes Entrance for a 4 day, 3 night camp. Bright and early on Tuesday the 12th of March the students entered our school enthusiastic and ready for an unknown adventure!

After a three hour long bus ride, with a small snack stop over in Taralgon, we finally arrived to a lively welcome from our camp instructors! After our welcome, the happy campers indulged in a range of adventurous and wet and wild activities. One of the favourites across the board was tubing, but… raft building encouraged their teamwork and communication. The Adventure Race had teams competing for the most points through, Kayaking, Bike Riding and Hill Climbing. Many students stood up for the first time on a Paddle Board and found themselves partaking in paddling based games. There was a soft breeze during our Sailing experience, creating a relaxing and calming experience for all on board, with many attempting to touch the water as they sailed along.

Our third day of camp involved a scenic boat ride across to Raymond Island, there was the opportunity for our students to soak in the sea breeze. Some even drove the boat for a short period of time! Once arriving, we spotted many of the local Koala’s, high above in the treetops, eating Eucalyptus leaves. The other activities for the day included Mountain Bike Riding through the bush and Farming with cows, sheep, pigs, chickens and alpacas all located at our camp!

Each night was filled with Leadership based activities where students worked together in teams to complete challenges followed by a big campfire toasting marshmallows and sugar covered apples! On our night walk, we discussed real life experiences involving leadership. And on the final night we snuggled under our blankets with popcorn and milk to watch a movie.

Our caring and dedicated Grade 6 teachers made sure that students were safe and enjoyed their time at camp. A very big thankyou to Miss B, Miss Barca, Miss Do and Miss Spriggs! We also would like to thank Mr Camerino, Mr Fitz, Miss Iannelli, Mrs Pereira and Mr Wursthorn for taking time away from their loved ones and attending camp with us!

Overall, our camp was a great hit with many commenting: “IT WAS THE BEST CAMP EVER!”
