Term 2 Week 2- 26th April

Welcome to term 2. We cannot believe how fast term 1 flew by. It was lovely seeing all the students so happy to be back at school. We enjoyed hearing about everyone’s school holidays and Ms Diggins was so excited to return to the classroom and see all the preppies!

From week 3, 29/3 Ms Diggins will be back in the classroom full time.

Thankyou

Thankyou to all the Parents, Grandparents and Carers who kindly came to help during our swimming program. We greatly appreciate your help and support. The preppies also loved you being there! We are so proud of all preps for their resilience and proactive attitude that all displayed during our swimming program!

What we are learning!

Maths:

In Maths we have been learning about shapes. Discovering how many sides and angles of various shapes. The Preps have had fun making shapes with their bodies and synergising with their peers to create large shapes. We have explored shapes around the school and in the classroom and made shape patterns with playdough and drawn pictures of shapes in their Maths books.

Little Learners love literacy:

Our Little Learners Love Literacy program has started off like clockwork for term 2. Students have enjoyed our daily sessions. We are focusing on our heart words again this week. Heart words are words that we learn by heart because we can’t sound them out. At this stage in the program, we are learning; I, my, My, the and The. Every student was sent home with these words in their blue satchels a few weeks ago. You are encouraged to practise these as often as possible. We have been focusing on the difference between the heart words with a lower case at the beginning, and the upper case at the beginning of the word. Every student is improving so well in their overall letter recognition and formation! From next week students will be streamed into groups according to their Little Learners Love Literacy assessment results. This will be streamed across P-2.

                                                                  Reading/Writing:

Whilst we have been at our swimming program we have been focusing on letter formation during our writing sessions as well as beginning our fluency pairs for letter sound correspondence and reading of CVC words (constant, Vowel, Constant).

Leader In me:

We focus on our 7 habits with everything that we do, both in the classroom, in the yard and even at home! We encourage students to be proactive and make positive choices without being asked to! This week, we are focusing on Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood. This habit is all about active communication and understanding.

Inquiry:

This term our inquiry topic is family and community partnerships, we have a fun program planned and look forward to sharing what we learn with you. We will be spending next week working on our term 2 academic and personal WIGS (Wildly Important Goals).

Specialist timetable:

Readers

We are now sending home weekly readers according to your child’s assessed reading level. We encourage you to listen to your child’s reader nightly and ask questions such as Who, What, When, and How about the book at the end to strengthen their comprehension skills.
