Fantastic 3/4

Term 2 Week 2 2024

What have we been up to?

It’s been an action packed start to Term 2 with the students doing an amazing job readjusting to the routine of school and swimming lessons at the same time. With swimming lessons concluding on Wednesday, the students should be proud of the way they have represented Le Page Primary School when outside of the school.

This Term, the students have finished reading the Action and Adventure story called Nim’s Island which exposed students to the structure of a narrative story and a range of descriptive language and other literary devices. To celebrate the conclusion of the novel, students watched the movie version of Nim’s Island and explored the differences and similarities between the two texts and the different choices the author and director made when designing the plot for each text. Students have also continued their learning through the Morpheme Magic program by building their knowledge of word origins and different suffixes and prefixes used in common and uncommon words.

Over the last two weeks in Maths, students have been developing their understanding of data. They have learnt strategies for posing different questions that they can use to collect, represent and interpret a range of data. In Week 3, students will start a new unit of mathematics about Addition and develop strategies for solving a range of problems at their point of need.

Students have also spent a number of days exploring the significance of ANZAC day through a range of student friendly literature and discussions about what we can do to proactively resolve day to day conflict. This learning culminated in the ANZAC day assembly which was held on Wednesday afternoon and led by the ⅚ students.

Due to swimming taking up a considerable amount of time throughout the first two weeks, students have not begun their new science and inquiry units of work. However, in week 3, students will begin two new units of learning in Inquiry and Science. The Science unit will focus on how we use a range of natural resources in our daily lives and in Inquiry, students will explore the importance of protecting the environment and what we can do to protect and preserve the natural spaces we use regularly.

We are looking forward to the students continuing their learning journey in week 3 and returning to a regular school routine now that swimming lessons have concluded. We wish all families an enjoyable and restful long weekend and encourage both families and students to sharpen their saws.
