Rest and Play

It has been an exciting yet big start to the year. Your children have been working extremely hard all day at school building friendships, learning about our school community and everyday routine. 

Jolly Sounds

Check out our YouTube channel. Every week a new set of sounds will be put up to share with your children at home or even show you how we teach them the sound and action. In their purple pouch is the sound and action sheet to practice. You can get them to write it any way you like for example with a water sprayer, playdough, shaving cream, write it in flour. Just as long as they are starting from the correct position and forming the sound correctly. Handwriting hero app is great to use to ensure formation is correct. 

Heart Words

Students were sent home the first sheet of heart (snap) words. Please check our YouTube channel to show you how to practice the first set of heart words.

Fine Motor

Having finger and hand strength is really important and so any further practice at home would be amazing. This can include playdough, Lego, pegging clothes on the washing line, sewing or threading just to name a few. We do a lot of cutting in class and further practice of this will help build up the confidence at school too. This includes cutting straight or curvy lines while also moving the page around so they don’t cut their fingers.

Kimochis at home: We have 2 very special Kimochis that are going to come for a visit on the weekend. Brave bug and Curious Cat. Students have designated weekends where they will bring home a small bug or cat and a book with instructions of what they will need to do. They will take the Kimochi home on a Friday and bring them back on the Monday. Please make sure they are taken care of and don’t get drawn on or eaten by any family pets.  If you do not have a printer at home we are happy to print for you. Thank you!

Sport Day: Friday 22nd March is GGLPS Sports Day. We encourage parents to attend if possible as it is another new event for our Foundations and sometimes it can be a new experience due to the extra people that we have together, as well as the excitement and cheering, your support is valued. Foundation Sports Day events will finish at 12pm and you are welcome to collect your child from the classroom at 12pm for an early finish. It can be worthwhile considering an early pick up as it is a physically demanding day and can be tiring for the children. 

Harmony Day: Harmony Day is coming up on Monday 25th March. We are excited about this special day where we can celebrate and share the range of different cultures that make up our school community. On the day, children can come to school dressed in traditional cultural costumes or dressed in orange. 

Take Home Bags: Just a reminder that your child’s take-home bag is to be checked each evening. Please empty any craft out of here and any notes sent home from school will be placed in here. Please also remind your children to hand signed notes to us in the mornings. Please make sure they have their purple pouch in their take home folder each day. See below.

Hats: We have a lot of children missing their school hats. Please make sure your child has a hat each day and it is clearly labelled in case it ends up lost or in the wrong bag. In Term 1 and 4, no hot means no play!

Family photo: If you have not provided a family photo, please send us one ASAP.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Our parent-teacher interviews will be held in person on Tuesday 2 April and Wednesday 3 April from 3.30pm until 7.15pm (last booking at 7.00pm)
