Welcome to Term 2!

We hope that you all had a safe and relaxing break over the Easter holidays. It has been a  wonderful start to Term 2 so far and we look forward to all that we are going to learn!

ANZAC Day - special presentation and ceremony

On Wednesday the 25th of April, we had a special visit from Darby’s Dad Joel, who came to talk to the 3/4 students about his experiences in the Army. He discussed and showed some of the uniforms he has worn throughout his time and also some of the places he has served in. We thank Joel very much for taking the time to speak to the students and are sure that they learned a lot from this experience!

Cross Country

Just a quick reminder that Cross Country is on next Wednesday, 1st May for those select students who are attending. Please refer to the information sent by Mr Smith on Compass for further details - thankyou!

Learning in Weeks 3 & 4

Mathematics: In Applied Maths, we will be learning how to read maps - including the use of grids and coordinates. This will continue to help us as we explore different countries and habitats in our Topic unit this term! Students will also continue to expand on their knowledge of Multiplication and Division during our Fluid Group sessions this fortnight.

Writing & Reading: In Writing, students will research an African country and present their information on a poster as part of a small group. We will be focusing on how to find information when researching a subject and how to present key details accurately and in our own words. In Reading, we will be exploring the differences between 'facts' and 'opinions'. We will also consider the concept of 'cause and effect' in relation to a character's feelings in the texts we read.

Topic: We have had a great few weeks taking a 'deep dive' into our new Topic Unit 'The Blue Marble'. Students have explored a variety of different habitats including the rainforest, learning about different species and writing about the importance of looking after our oceans. This fortnight we will discuss a few different concepts including 'Deforestation', 'Life Cycles' and 'Ecosystems'.
