Term 2, Week 2

What we've been up to...

Easter Hat Parade

We had a fabulous time at our first Easter Hat Parade! There were so many big smiles and excited Preps seeing the Easter Bunny.

Easter Hunt

On the last day of term, we had a 'word hunt'. We had to find a number of words that we have learnt and tick them off our list. We also got to explore the top playground for the first time.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all Preps for participating in their first Cross Country!

Ordinal Number

We started the term off by learning about Ordinal Number in Maths. After some running races and dances where we had to do a particular action for each ordinal number, we got to race cars. These cars became the 3 little pigs, their mother and the wolf and we had to record who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Reminders

Mornings

Now that we are into our second term at school, it is important that students are lining up at 8.40am when the first bell goes. If you arrive earlier than 8.40am, your child can have a play with friends on the playground or you are welcome to wait with them. Teachers will be out to collect their classes just after the first bell goes and then we will come inside, where students will independently unpack their bags and we will begin our school day.

For those students who have a morning plan in place that has been organised with their teacher, please continue to do this as you have so far.

Teachers are available in their classrooms from 8.30am, if you have any important information to share with us.

Can you help?

In a few weeks, we will be building a bridge for a troll to cross as part of Topic. We are on the lookout for materials that the students could use to build the bridge that they will design.

If you have some of the items below, or anything else that you might think could work, please send them in for the 3 Prep classrooms to share. Please make sure that they are clean.

  • paper rolls
  • small boxes (cardboard needs to be thin enough for students to cut)
  • icy pole sticks
  • foil

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

In week 3, we will be revising the sounds 'y', 'r', 'e', 'qu' and 'z' and continuing to practise writing words, lists and now write sentences using words that include these sounds.

In week 4, we will be learning about the sounds j, u, k. Over the next two weeks we will be reading Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. We will be learning the Heart Words 'to' and 'was' and revising 'she' and 'we'.

Mathematics

In week 3, we will be learning to sequence everyday events, what the days of the week are, and things that we do on particular days. You can help at home by encouraging your child to recall what they do on particular days of the week (e.g. soccer on Saturday, gym on Tuesday, horse riding on Wednesday). You can remind them what the day is each day and if it is a school day or not, and you can help them to put events into time order (e.g. first brush teeth, second put on school shoes, third get in the car).

In week 4, we will be learning about capacity. We will be figuring out which containers hold more and why and we will be using language such as ‘holds more’ and ‘holds less’.

Topic

In Topic, we will be making Little Red Riding Hood a coat and making playdough. Then we will use our playdough to make a pig, before making a boat to see if we can get our pig to float.
