Respectful Relationships

This week 1/2 Todeschini/Brewer participated in a collaborative balancing activity. In pairs, students had an object that they needed to move around the classroom without dropping. Each person used one hand to balance (not hold) the object. At the end of the lesson the students were able to share some ideas that helped them and their partner be successful, along with how these skills could help them outside in the playground.

"It helped me when my partner listened to me."

"We got better because we were practising."

"We did better when we slowed down and stopped trying to be so quick."

"Listening when my friends are talking is good at the Bases."

SWPBS

Students celebrated the end of last term with a casual dress day, as their Level 1 whole school reward. I'm sure all students will be eager to aim a little higher this term and try to earn the Level 2 reward. At this week's assembly, we will reveal what the rewards are for Level 1 and Level 2.

Students are continuing to display their classroom expectations. All classroom teachers have been reteaching these expectations over the last fortnight and rewarding students who consistently display these positive behaviours.

Many students are looking forward to cashing these stickers in for an individual reward. Some 5/6 students can't wait to reach their 50th sticker, so they can "head down to the Cafe with a friend (and teacher) for lunch".

We’re exited to announce we will be running a “Wear it Yellow” fundraiser at SGPS on May 31st. Students will be invited to wear yellow clothes to school for a gold coin donation. This day is all about raising money for “Children's Ground” which is First Nations Not-for-profit Organisation. It is a Reconciliation Week fundraiser! Taking part in "Wear it Yellow" is also an opportunity to celebrate First Nations culture.  We have been enjoying collaborating with the SRC to get everything organised and will be sharing some more information soon.

SunSmart Policy

The implementation of our SunSmart policy will conclude at the end of April, so hats are not officially required after this time.

However, students are still encouraged to continue being SunSmart throughout the whole year.

Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, free SunSmart appsunsmart.com.au or bom.gov.au.

Harmony Day Celebrations!

On Friday 22nd of March, students sat in the hub in a sea of orange to engage with the first event of the day. This was a special assembly including student speeches, an Auslan sign-along of “The Friendship Song” and the SGPS Choir performance of “Everyone Belongs”. A huge congratulations to all of our speakers and performers on your contributions to the day.

We would like to make special metion of the below listed students who presented speeches at the assembly. Students then participated in a range of rotation activities in their house groups, where a wide range of cultures were explored and filled in the student passports as they went. Thank you so much to families for their contributions to these activities.

This was followed after recess by the oppotunity to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture in a range of Indigenous games and activities.

Thank you to all staff, studenst and families in the SGPS community for contributing to this wonderful day.
