Grade 3 - 4
Reading
This week we have started a new mentor text called ‘One Potoroo’. Students have begun to seek how characters have been portrayed in picture books through both images and text. They have been able to use this knowledge in their writing lessons also. We have been able to understand the different types of describing words that authors use and how they add to the images the illustrator has drawn. Grade 4 students have done an amazing job getting ready for NAPLAN next year. We have been discussing the different strategies to approach a NAPLAN Reading test and discussing ways to answer the questions!
Writing
This week we have continued learning all about narrative writing and focused on techniques such as sizzling starts, show don’t tell and exciting endings. The students drafted plans and began writing their narrative story which reflected all of their new understandings from our lessons the past few weeks.
Maths
The grade 3s and 4s have been looking at Statistics and Probability. We have been learning about Data the past two weeks. Students have been creating their own questions to conduct surveys, collecting the results and finding different ways to display their data. Students are now familiar with different types of tables and graphs. Once a week students have also been beginning to prepare for NAPLAN next year, looking at the type of questions that may be on them as well as different strategies to use.
Dance
The students have been practicing hard for the upcoming Christmas concert. All classes have been partaking in a dance session once a week where they are learning to go out of the comfort zones and learn new moves. They have been improving very well and we cannot wait for them to all perform together at the Christmas concert!
