Literacy
In the past two weeks, our Prep’s have been diving into some wonderful stories during our literacy sessions. We explored "The Sloth Who Came to Stay" and "Norton and the Bear."
In "The Sloth Who Came to Stay," our fantastic readers joined a sloth on a journey into a lively town, aiming to bring a slower pace to everyone's lives. The Preppies were fascinated by the sloth's calm presence and learned some new words, like 'plucking,' 'shuddered,' 'admired,' 'dragged,' and 'glorious,' which added a lot of detail and excitement to their storytelling. These words made their Writing of the sloth's adventures more interesting and expressive.
As for "Norton and the Bear," our young readers followed Norton and a bear with a heart full of admiration. The bear copied Norton's clothing choices, leading to some funny and interesting moments. In the end, Norton's realisation that, despite occasional similarities, each person is unique and different, provided a valuable lesson during their literary exploration. Throughout the week, the Preps discovered words like 'unique,' 'identical,' 'exquisite,' 'disguised,' and 'panicked,' enriching their writing samples.
During our 'turn and talk' sessions, the students eagerly shared their thoughts and insights on these stories, helping them develop a deeper understanding and enhancing their critical thinking abilities. It's been a joy to see their enthusiasm for learning and storytelling grow each week and we hope this continues over the next few weeks!
Maths
Over the past two weeks in our Maths sessions, each day has been dedicated to revising topics and skills within the Number and Algebra and Measurement and Geometry curriculum strands. Our fortnight began with a comprehensive review of patterns, where students practiced identifying and creating patterns with colours, shapes, and objects.
Transitioning from patterns, our focus turned to the concept of time. Students actively engaged in tasks such as ordering days of the week, sequencing events from morning to night, and interpreting both analogue and digital clocks. It has been wonderful to see how much our Prep’s have grown this year. We are so PROUD of them!
