First of all, I'd like to offer a warm welcome to the families of our incoming Year 7 students who are joining us at Francis Greenway High School for the first time. I hope your students enjoy all the things we have to offer in Science this year. To our existing families, welcome back to another big year in Science. We are looking forward to seeing you all again and working with you on this educational journey.
To begin with, a reminder about the assessments coming up in Week 6. Assessment notifications have gone out for years 7, 9 and 10, with Year 8's first assessment still a few weeks away. Notifications will go out for that task soon.
Year 7 students will be developing their secondary research skills as they complete a research task. Year 9 students will be constructing a model of an atom and Year 10 students will be compiling a digital presentation of the results of an experiment calculating the speed of a moving toy! Please assist your students to engage with these tasks to the best of their ability.
Most years, the Science faculty conducts a competition for Science Week to design a shirt that will be worn by all Science teachers during that week. Last year, due to a change in suppliers we were unable to source a shirt in time. So this year, we will be running the competition earlier. Towards the end of Term 1, we will notify students via the Sentral announcements and in class when we will be calling for submissions. Final designs will be due early in Term 2, with judging to commence shortly after. This year's theme is "Species Survival: More than just sustainability", so students should begin thinking about their designs.
Watch this space for more information. Until next time!
