Burger Challenge & History Excursion
The Year 8 Burger Challenge is a team event where students follow a design brief to plan for, and create a tasty burger that incorporates fresh fruits and vegetables and homemade condiments in a food safe environment. After testing their prototype, each team goes head-to-head in the final showdown to find out who has the burger to beat all burgers! Final results are based on a sensory analysis and voting which is conducted by all students in the class and invited teachers and staff.

On Wednesday 1 November, Home Group 8.7 and 8.8 History classes went on an History excursion to the Melbourne CBD and the National Gallery of Victoria.
This opportunity added significantly to the students’ learning experience as they continue their Year 8 History studies of the Italian Renaissance and the Reformation. We visited a variety of places of worship to observe differences in how the Christian faith is expressed in architecture. In addition, students experienced a guided tour of the NGV’s European gallery to see firsthand the differences between Medieval and Renaissance art.
The History excursion was an interesting and fun experience. We went to Melbourne looking at old churches and comparing medieval and renaissance art to modern art in the National Gallery of Victoria. I found the three churches very interesting, with their old stone walls and stained windows, which had images of Jesus. The renaissance art was also cool, which used depth and perspective, unlike other earlier European paintings. It was a fun day and showed us a real-life example of European building styles and paintings.
John Brightwell (8.8)
Today I realised how big an impact the Renaissance is to our modern lives. Many fundamental things in art come from the Renaissance. The Renaissance also developed a new level of art, compared to the artwork before. Every artwork and architecture is carefully measured and planned, and the details are very specific. I am glad I had the opportunity to go on this excursion.
Audrey Kwok (8.7)
On our excursion, we visited some churches and the National Gallery of Victoria in the city. We learnt about the differences between architecture in each church denomination in Melbourne. At the National Gallery of Victoria, which is the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia, we learnt all about the Renaissance art, which was a real beauty to see. It was packed with so much fun. At every turn there was something interesting to look at.
