Performing Arts
Although we are nearing the end of the school year, there is no sign of the Performing Arts faculty slowing down! The last few weeks have seen many performances by a variety of year groups and ensembles.
The Year 7 Concert, held in the Life Ministry Church, was an opportunity to show all that they have achieved in their weekly instrumental classes, learning strings, percussion, guitar, woodwind or brass. Each group performed as a small ensemble and then would combine to form a larger band, guitar ensemble or string group. The Year 7 students were focused and performed their very best.
Students and parents also enjoyed presentations from Sinfonia, Cantabile, Sforzando and Senior Concert Band, which provided some motivation to continue learning an instrument. Antony Scarborough (11.13) also shared his experiences and journey as a musician at Oxley Christian College.
The Year 5 and 6 Concerts were held in the Broadley Performing Arts Centre, each year level demonstrating the skills that have been learnt in the Instrumental Program on band instruments.
The Year 5 concert featured performances as a band, in addition to demonstrations from each instrument group of flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones and percussion. The Junior Concert Band commenced the evening with a varied repertoire, as each member had also commenced their instrument in the Year 5 program, an opportunity open to the present Year 5 students next year. This concert concluded with a performance from the Senior Concert Band, providing a source of enjoyment and inspiration.
After a short audience changeover period, the Year 6 Concert commenced with the Senior Concert Band, a group that the students will have an opportunity to join next year in Year 7. The Junior and Senior Concert Bands then joined for a lively performance. The Year 6 students then took over and impressed everyone with their development over the year, performing concert band pieces and also displaying their flexibility in presenting works for a small ensemble of their instrument. Sinfonia performed to give the opportunity for those Year 6 string players to experience another ensemble to which they can belong next year. The evening concluded with the Year 6 Band, and it was evident that the audience appreciated all that had been performed over the evening.
This week, the Year 2 students demonstrated their skills as a result of the Year 2 String Program and entertained the parents who attended this concert. As a source of motivation, Andante (Year 3) and cellist, Alannah Moulton (10.3), also performed. It was evident throughout the concert that the Year 2 students love their music-making and playing their instruments.
Junior Music Ensembles now turn their attention to preparing for Junior School Final Assembly and Senior Music Ensembles to Presentation Evening. Are things slowing down ... no, just gaining momentum … and we love it!
